Ok guys I know the big thing right now is Lamborgini hinges. I myself are about to purchase a set for my show car. Two members in my car club have previously purchased and had lamborgini hinges professionally installed on their vehicals. The first one was Chris Martin. He purchased Autoloc's lambo hinge system. Today the shock broke and now he is forced to put back his stock hinges. His blazer was rarely driven because it is a show vehical. They have been on his ride for year and a half. The second vehical was Dane with a mitsubishi eclipse. His were on for just short of a year. His lambo hinge broke right under the shock. Where arm is mounted to the shock. Dane's car was daily driven btw. Both together spent around 1500 on their hinges alone. So they were not cheapy's. Im not sure what brand of lambo hinges dane had.
The reason im bringing up this is because I am wondering have any of you had problems with this. IF so what brand? How long were the hinges on before you had problems and was it used daily? I just want to make sure this is a good purchase for my car before i fork out the money. O btw I am considering the Chin Wah lambo hinge set for my car. I appreciat any input you can give on this matter. Wether it is your own experience or one of your friends.
Thanks,
Derrick Hudson
My friend has had his on for a while about a year and no problems yet..........but you should hit up the Group Purchase froum.......if I did not buy my VDI ones already I would have bought those in reading through the post they are the Chin Wah just a GREAT PRICE ...........

My drivers gas strut Broke off, door fell, doors trashed, fenders trashed, hinge is trashed, and some damage to the 1/4 panel.
Warranty onlycovers hinge and im still waiting on it to get here(3 weeks and counting)
They are the same hinges as the GP is selling ive been told VDI and Chin Wah.
I would say you shouldent have to worry about em breaking mine brake because someone was playing with my air while the doors were up and it put too much stress on the strut from the door being thrown up.
My friend had a set of lambos on his 99 had them for about a month and when he was opening the door the dam door fell off it was the autloc kit needles to say he had to get hold of a lawer to get his money back for the kit .

Second lambo post I will say this in... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...
Speedway Performance built the kit I have and I leave the doors up for DAYS. Been installed since January of LAST year... 'Nuff said...
Right exactly. thats why i mentioned the cost of their hinges. There kits were expensive. I think Chris payed like $2,000 for his hinge system. And $1,000 to have it put on. Dane payed $1,500 for his and put them on himself. I know you get what you pay for I was just seing in general is this a common occurance in aftermarket lambo hinges?
Thanks,
Derrick Hudson
If you get what you pay for how on earth do you explain my VDIS being crap??? After doing research the only reason why the chin wahs are cheaper is because of where they are coming from ............I would have much rather spent the 500 bucks and had this happen instead of a grand ...........but i got what I paid for right

LOL my door has been up since the end of November when I dropped my car off at the bodyshop. They never shut it since they are always working on the car.
Too many cheapskates on this site if you ask me. Dont really know what to tell ya, just ask people who have what kit youre considering and make sure theyve had it for a while.
another thing you need to think about is this....when lambos first started popping up, they were all basically prototypes. now that they have been out for the J market for a year or two, alot of the bugs have been worked out. i dont have lambos so i cant really say from experience what is good or bad...just what ive heard on the board.
and the autoloc kit is a universal kit that is modded to each car. thats probably why they are more prone to breaking than the car specific applications.

All I ever hear about aotu-loc is they are JUNK>
Thanks for your input everyone I appreciat it. Z2flip4 and Tobasco racing Very good opionions. Tobasco Im glad you said something about the lambo's being prototypes I didnt even think of that. And yeah Autoloc being a universal kit would contribut to not being made for a specific car. I was just hoping I could learn from other peoples mistakes before I made a costly one my self. Again thanks for everyones input its greatly appreciated.
I had Decah lambo kit on for LESS then 2 months and door came crashing down strut blew, fluid all over the place. Good thing i caught the door.
You guys need to think about this some more. People get a GOOD DEAL on an exhaust system for $1000. Non-moving parts that just attach to the car and (assuming it's taken care of and installed properly) stay the same for almost the life of the car...
You want to order lambo doors for $500 or even $1000 and expect to get flawless quality? We are talking about something COMPLETELY changing the function of the doors and is moving on almost a DAILY basis.
I'm not saying that $1000 is something to sneeze at, because it's not. I guess I'm just not surprised when so many people balked at the price of the Speedway kit...
This happens with so many things, Ebay bodykits, lambo doors, etc, etc...
Just out of curiosity, what makes the Speedway kit so much more superior? I've seen the kit and it is a very nice kit, but it's better then the others because the door can be left up for a long length of time? I'm a little confused because I've left my door up for days and I don't have that kit
I agree to the point "you get what you pay for", but look at Orange Syn who had a Decah kit (which is supposed to be one of the best kits out there) and he had several problems.....and I'm sure he paid a good amount for the kit.

Of what little I know on the subject, I think Josh and Brain's cars both have the same kit (not sure on that) but the only difference I can come up with is that they're doors are "vertical" and not the 45's like most have...main difference...they go up further
90 > 45. Get what I'm saying?? lol
correct me if im wrong, but the decah kit isn't a direct bolt on, correct?
jnickel - I know that
I've had both kits in my hand
cannon - You are correct....They make a universal kit that needs to be modified. At one time, Decah was the brand to have. They were the best and first.......
I stand behind the Speedway kit because:
1. You haven't heard any issues with their struts.
2. 90

Not having doors fall is teh win... lol
wel i just installed chris winks lambo doors and the thing came crashing down... the swivell bearing popped right out with the strut.. still on it..
i sprained my wrist catching it.. and almost lost everything..
I posted in the Group Pruchase about the entire thing..
to tell you the truth i think it was a falty part cause it hasing happened to anyone eslse yet... but who know..
ive asked himwhat hes going to do.... with replacing the hinge.. cause he gave of full courage on struts and hinges.... for the amount we payed.. now im just waiting on a reply from him...
Hopefully soon caus there are so many reason now why i want to get rid of the kit and my car for that matter...
damn it took me like 22 mins to write that... ^
OEM CAMBER/CASTER KIT 10 People for $210 <P>
GOT ECOTEC?
Joe- is correct Decah WAS supposed to be a direct bolt on kit which i was told haha not EVEN close. If you actully saw the kit and the way it had to be made to fit and work properly youd @!#$ yourself. I paid a nice 2200 CDN for it i mean for garbadge.
I know have the GP kit from Joe and just looking at those hinges and the decah its alot better. I will be installing the NEW kit come warm weather.
Ok I understand the whole you get what you pay for thing but if you want a really good kit for pennies compared to whats out there, their is a option. What you do is borrow a friends hinge if you can or just find alot of good pictures. Go to a metal shop ask them to make you a set. you wont get any warrentees or name brands but you can pick out the strongest metal and thickness you want as well as having your choice of which strut to use. Unless you want to spend extra money you wont get the 2 little ajustment screws but the hinge will be made not for your type of car but your exact car so it will be air tight. You figure if you have a friend who can do it youll pay for materials which unless you ask for gold should never be more then 200. If you dont have a friend you pay for some labor. Give the guy a nice tip and you go home with a cheap hinge that'll outlast anyother on the market................Then again if your an unlucky person the guy making it all can screw you and youll go home with something made of crap.
Well, in my area, there aren't too many people around with the equipment to cut through 3/8 steel with the precision required. I'd personally just spend the extra for a pre-made kit.
If the strut breaks, I realize it's gonna suck. But in theory, with the kits that open both ways, shouldn't you still be able to use the door "normal style", even with a busted strut (which obviously would be taken off)?
I have a kit through red rum customs and it is wonderful. My car literally jumps off the ground when I raise it with air ride and I have had the doors up when I did it and had no problem. I like the kit because you can open it like a stock door or straight up. I think it is a good kit and you don't have to spend $1000 to get it. Just my opinion, good luck.

CharlzO - Yeah, you can still use your door. I had my driver's side on without my strut for a couple days before I was able to put it on and didn't have a problem.
