i need the list of what they added to the car before they chop the top off it. and i need to know if the doors will fit on a coupe (like it the same but without the upper frame) because ive got a project brewing
Dont even think of turning a coupe into a vert or some other topless creation. BAD idea.
The only 'bracing' per say aside from maybe some stiffer regular parts are braces which are (I believe) riveted to the side rails from the rear of the front wheels to the front of the rear wheels.
ya i dont think i would try to convert it either, i once thought about it, but wouldnt recommend it, u should just get a conv and do whatever you want with that, if you are making it a targa top then it has been done, not sure if the ppl that did it made any braces or not, but its been done, later
pic coming soon

the one i saw was a t-top, if i got a vert i would keep it a vert but i wanna targa it but i wanna do it right so i dont get a metal taco after a crash.
well there is a cavy i seen somewhere on the internet i thought it was here, and he had the targa top, it looked pretty good, i have pics of it, but thats it, i can email them to you if you want, it was a green cavy with a bomex kit, in case anyone knows him, i thought there was a sunfire on here too with the targa top but i could be wrong, later

See if you can get ahold of a " Convertible Supplement " Service Manual form GM.
I have one here in front of me and it shows 11 pages of weld in replacment bracing with 78 different peices of bracing. BUT a few of those will be included with/in the convertible doors.

For some reason my '97 book shows a few of Johns numbers with a T instead of an S. Maybe they updated.

i bet it'd be cheaper to buy a convertible cav than to make one.

Wow, the third gens have a lot more bracing than the second gens do. All we got is two bars riveted to the floor that runs along the rocker and some bracing in the trunk. I was looking into this a while ago cause I'm putting a T top on my second gen, but since its a T top I'm bracing the roof a lot since theres still a piece that conects up top, if that made sence, lol
Anyways, its been done to a grand am befor and I've seen a second gen with a targa top and a sunfire with a t top, so you know it can be done.
Viper, i dont think hes making it vert, hes probly doing a targa or t top sort of deal, hence the need for a roof to start working on AND all the very bracing.. and Lenko... thanks, but no thanks lol
