Dry Ice?

ok so i have a dent in the rear quarter panel, was talking about getting a body shop to get my dents out. Someone told me to try dry ice. I didnt think they were serious until another person told me to try dry ice...i know there are alot of body repair guys here that are serious about the years of work they go through, and im not trying to say its as easy as just uding dry ice, but does this even remotely work?

i have seen old timers pull dents with just an oxy acetelyene torch. I suppose the dry ice is all about technique and practice just like the torch.

Yes it does work, a buddy of mine who works for Roberts oxygen got a hold of some dry ice and got all the dents out of his wife's sunfire.

Is there a method? I don't know. I will ask him if there is a way to rub it on.

i dont know the exact method, but you either heat the area up and then apply the dry ice wrapped in a rag to the area to cool it, or vise versa.

the theory of dry ice works, but you will most like need to get body work done to the area because what happens is: a dent is caused from the metal stretching.... dry ice will shrink the metal, causing it to actually buldge past the preexisting point... some may use a torch to shrink it slighly.

Depending on the dent, i guess it may work. This theory was told to me by another body guys, as I have never tried it. Dont try it if you cant afford to pay to get it fixed

yes, it works... and there is no real ''technique''. Take a piece about the size of a quarter... mainly placement in the center of the dent, application of little water and stand back. since the ice is so cold (beyond cold, dangerously cold) it actually expands the metal outward almost to it's pre-existing state. granted not to the exact pre-existing state, cause it can't be that precise. however, this is a cheap, easy and quick fix to dents. a lot of vendors carry and store dry ice for their products, but be careful when and if you do handle it, it's temperature can and will burn the skin.

if your roof was peppered in a hail storm or such this is a plausable way of fixing some dents but don't expect it to work miracles and salvage a crushed front end.

I'm using some this week in fact.
