Ok as some/many of you know or may not know... I'm an experienced auto body tech/painter. I finally decided on a color to paint my car next (hopefully before the bash). It's "ONLY" going to run me about $700 for the paint alone... (X-otic colours if it helps). Here's my question.
While I'm very very good at painting cars with "normal" paint... i.e. DuPont, PPG etc... spraying a Candee/Kandi color is a new world to me. The X-otic dealer near me gave me the following pointers:
1. Of course... do a test panel to assure I have the color the way I want it
2. Spray the Candee color with a 75% overlap
3. And when spraying... for example... instead of spraying panel by panel... when you're doing the side of the car, to start from the front and keep moving allllll the way to the back.
He said he's seen a lot of people get "zebra stripes" if the Candee color isnt sprayed right. I definately don't want that to happen since the paint is so expensive. He gave me a tech manual, but I just wanted to see if anyone on here has experience with using Candee/Kandi colors and might have some suggestions or pointers that might not be in the book. Thanks guys!!!
I've sprayed kandy before, its pretty easy to me. People just make it out to be harder than it really is. Zebra striping has nothing to do with the paint, its the way you set up your gun.
also, you shouldn't go panel to panel with it. What I mean is, dont go paint a fender, then go to the door, then to the rear quarter. You want to go the whole length of the car with it. If you dont, you'll have darker spots on the edges of the panels.
another thing to is the whole car has to first be painted a base color, preferably silver. This is because kandi paints are transparent, and they get darker the more coats you spray on
If you need any more help or tips IM me
Hey thanks for the advice Meckster.
Wow no one else has sprayed Candee's/Kandi's??
I have a feeling this is going to be fun... hehe. I'm probably thinking it's going to be worse than it is though. Now... all I need to do is scrape up the money... get new sides... finish the front bumper and I'm ready to spray!
