Fibreglass Replacement Bumpers

Pardon my ignorance again, I'd like to learn a bit about the aftermarket, replacement bumpers (front and rear).

I've removed both on my 1996 Cavalier 2-door and now see how they mount (to the body, and the underlying, steel bumper thingies that weigh a ton).

Do the aftermarket fibreglass bumpers still require the heavy, steel, underlying bumper supports be there?

Does anyone make fibreglass replacements that look the same as the stock pieces?

I'll want to get rid of the stock plastic and steel supports, and replace them with replica fibreglass pieces if they exist (rather than make something up).

For off road use only of course, with additional support from some additional welded on tubing to replace the underlying steel bumper pieces I've removed to retain strength in the chassis.

Regards.

aftermarket bumpers are actually just a facia or cover. the bumper itself is either a plastic honey-comb material or a styrofoam type block. these are what absorb the impact. as far as the steel supports, please put those back in place. there is no reason to take those off.

once you take the plastic bumper itself off, any aftermarket bumper (or facia) will just go right in it's place. no changing of any supports or braces.

Guys, thanks for the information, I appreciate it.

BTW, this is for a drag race vehicle, no longer a streeter. The steel bumper thingies will be removed for good, replaced with some reinforcement tubing instead.

Knowing what you've said, I'll have to consider something else with respect to swapping the bumper facia for stock.

Regards.
