Residential addresses are harder for larger trucks to get to so what they need to do it put it on a smaller truck so they can deliver the items to you. Businesses have loading docks and or they are on bigger streets to the big 18 wheeler can show up and drop off the stuff with out any problems.

Hope that clears things up.

if you are in a residential area (that means you are surrounded by HOMES) and you are being delivered to a house, that's why. freight trucks are not allowed to drive in residential areas.

i got lucky with my bed cover for my truck , had it delivered to the firehouse, its a residential area but considered a business, an the street is all marked off so our trucks an enter/exit easily, so obviously its not hard for freight trucks to make the delivery...

Yup, pretty much what everyone else said, most streets wont allow such large trucks through, so they must transfer it into another truck...extra expense..."residentual" areas are also harder to navigate to and exit out of.

Thats pretty much all there is to it, hope that helps you

If you tell them that it is a business area then they will send the big rig, and when they get to your house they will not be able to deliver it to you.

i was told by fedex freight that the defining line between a "business" and a "home business" is this: the home business needs to be open to the public for it to qualify for business rates. so if youre grandpa is open to the public then he should be good. but you should call the shipping company and make sure first

When I got my kit I made sure they knew it was going to a residence and that it was a small area so they needed to plan the shipping accordingly. When the kit arrived it came on the big rig and the guy parked like 4 blocks down walked to my brothers house and told us to come down and get it off his truck. Wouldnt have been too much of a problem but we had my brothers focus gutted and my wife took my car down to the store. So we had to walk the damn thing 4 blocks back to my brothers house.

Needless to say, we didnt put the kit on that day.

As far as the question of your grandfathers "business" it wont fly. It will still come up on a shipping list as a residence. So unless he has a loading bay in his back yard or if you have a hook up with a buddy that works some where that is an actual business then you are going to have to pay the extra coin for the trouble.

well my house is extremely easy to get to with a big rig its like a big cirle neighboorhood with plenty of room and to exit he would jsut have to circe

to me it just seems like a way for them to jack 40 bucks of my hard earned money
im only sixteen and im not rich i just dont want to have to throw forty away you know

Trust me, I have a wife and a 6 year old son. Im not willing to part with $40 just as much as you. As far as the condition of your area, its still not a factor. It wouldnt matter if you where the only house on the whole street and your drive way was the size of a football field. Its still a residence and thats all that counts in the end game.
