Underglow Systems..
Thursday, April 28, 2005 12:11 PM
Hey, quick question for all of ya. I have this whole black, blue and silver scheme going on with my Black 05 Cavalier. I was going to get Streetglow sets for my underbody. probably the Blueline series. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has run into legal problems from these? Do the cops question these or pull over people for this? I've asked two cops and one of them says he doesn't, the other says he couldn't care less. It'd be nice to know since buying and installing these things are going to cost like $150-$210, and if I can't use them, there is no point putting that much money away.

Anyone?

it all depends on where you live, here in illinois its illegal, but about 10 minutes away in missouri its legal. I have them on my car, but i only have them on when the car is parked. Some states outlaw them completely, some allow them completely, and then some dont care as long as they're not red or blue (color of emergency vehicle lights). They're not all that great tho. I had mine on alot when i first got them, and after a month i quit turning them on almost completely. I havent had them on in about 2 months now.

Red and blue is illegal in Canada. I actually got pulled over 5 minutes after I turned it on the first time. I didn't get a ticket for them though, got threatened with 6 tickets but got only one, OH JOY!

Now I've had them for over a year and nothing since the first time.

All colors are safe in Canada except red and blue. The red is reserved for emergency vechicles, you're not allowed to have red infront of the rear wheel. The blue is reserved for snow removal vechicles and same as the red, can't have it infront of the rear wheel.

All depends if the cop had his donut and is happy or is on the way to a coffee shop and grumpy.

Ah that sucks... I was going to go for Blue too and I live in Illinois. Eh, I guess I'll just put the money into a bodykit or something else. No really point spending that much money only to have to watch for every other cop.

Thanks guys

well i had a set on my s 10 (blue) , and i put a set on my cavy (Blue) cops only told one thing ,STOP Taunting Other Drivers To Race YOU!! what was happin was i had a short caus the rain and a crappy install on my s-10, i did the install on my cavy it took me bout 2-3 hrs caus of my body kit , hard to get a jack under there and drinkin lol , but if ur not kitted it should take less than an hour , and btw i got my last blueline set for my cave @ Circut City on sale for $74 after tax. so thats less than half the price installed !!! and here in the states the law is a lil diff @ least down here in La, Ms, Al ,Fl, the law is : No Bulb can be seen any color ,cept amber and white . but any color glow is legal thus the name Street GLOW , and the same goes for interior neons , if the bulb breaks the plane of the bottom of the window when rolled up ( if u can see it from the out side ) its illegal, but having glow is legal any color. but i don't live where u do so check it out call ur DMV . hope i could help ya

P.S. and i never heard of a trucker gettin pulled over for his lights they have lots down here i even saw purp , blue and red on the front of their grills

i have the blue led's on my car now have had the blue neons on it b4 .i used to ride around with them on till i found out i could get a ton of tickets for them.last year i was at a local " cruise night" and a cop looked at my car and told me he did not want to catch me riding around with the lights on because it's a $1,500 fine for the under glow lights and a $5,000 fine for the blue strobes inside the car. http://registry.gmenthusiast.com/images/electrified02cav/04_10_1.JPG

I can understand strobes being illegal but I could never understand why underbody lights are such a big deal on being legal because you can tell a mile away if a car has underbodies or if it's an emergency vehicle mainly cause they have flashing lights ontop of the vehicle.

In Illinois, they are only illegal to have on while the car is in motion...If you are sitting still, in a parking lot, etc, then you are good...If you turn them on when you are on a road, that is when you have to worry.

i live in arkansas...and as long as you are stationary, you can have them on, but you cant drive with them on. but i can go 30 miles to missouri and run around with them on all night and never get pulled over or anything. it just depends on where you are like everyone else is saying. but if you are gonna get streetglow....i recommend the L.E.D.s. they are awesome. they can go through like 10 different combos of flashes. or they can just stay on all the time or even flash to the beat of the music. mine were like $145 from www.newlevelmotorsports.com, shipped and all. they are really cool. i recommend them. they are a big eye-catcher.

Ive Had My Red LED's On My Car For About A Year. I Live In Calgary, Canada & Ive Been Pulled Over A Few With Just Warnings. I Got One Ticket For The LED's It Was $56. I Think It All Depends On The Cop. My Friend S-10 Has 7 Color LED & Cops Like It. In Calgary They Just Dont Car They Got Bigger Things To Worry About.

i wouldn't listen to what any one has to say about laws because i know its diff everywhere and u could never get a $1500 for neons alone even if the officer is an ass he could only hit you with , improper lighting , impersanating an officer/emergncy vehicle , and he can try (no such ticket but he would hand write it) distracting other drivers . and those tickets don't add up to 1500 but i know in hattiesburg ms u can get a 1500 ticket for haveing ur bass/music up way to loud . don't even ask a cop whats the law its like asking a car salesman hey can u get one of those v6 cavaliers in for me he'll say oh yea i think we have a few here now. neither would know caus its not really important to them , i love my cavy more than anything but its one of GMs cheapest and thats all they know about it. driving around w/ neons isn't a crime down here unless u can se the bulb so i wouldn't expect every officer to know all the bylaws or ecxptons like i said in my last post call the DMV .

heres what i was told a LONG time ago.. and this is in tennessee.. if they flash they are illegal.. BUT if they have a switch they are illegal too because then they have the ability to flash..

i believe one cop said it really depends on if hes having a bad day or not LOL... but you will get hell for blue or red no matter what as far as i know.. unless the cops just dont care...
