cool tks.. should i use rubbing compound after clear??
yea polish an all that fun stuff after its all nice an dry...
thanks for the info and quick response .....
make sure you clean after each tiem you sand...and make sure it isnt humid out an stuff...
Im pretty sure your supossed to wet sand after tha clear......
depends on how good you are...and how much work you want to do after...if you wet sand after clear, the clears gonna be cloudy...then you have to bust your balls buffing that, so if you clear it nicely....then you can just polish it (which is almost like a super super fine sanding)
^^^^^^I work at a body shop. You always wet sand after the clear unless it is a terrible paint job or you have an updraft spray booth. It doesn't get cloudy wet you wet sand, it gets small scratches. The wet sanding removes small nibs and the tiny slight waviness in the paint. Buffing removes all o fhe scratches and doesn't take but a tenth of the time wetsanding does. I have been wetsanding an F350 I painted candy red for two days now starting with 1200 grit and working to 5000. This thing is going to shine like a mother. I will take a picture when it is all done.

dont forget, he's usin spray paint...
DO NOT wetsand basecoat. Especially if there's metallics in it... you're going to mess up the metallics. Wetsand the primer after a few coats, dry and clean off... THEN base, clear, THEN wetsand...
^^^^ what he said. Theres no real need to wetsand the base. Primer(few coats),wetsand with like 1200-1500, base(few coats), Clear(few coats), wetsand, buff with wool pad and compound, buff with waffle pad and polish or just hand polish, and then enjoy. You wont really even need to wetsand it tho unless there is a lot of dirt nicks or runs in the clear.
Also, if the paint has metalic in it and you get a run, wetsand that off and then spray another coat or two of the base before clearing.
After you primmer should you sand it with 500 first then 1200 ??

Fallen is a she, and a damn fine she at that.
Oh and she's right, since she is a pro as well. GAWD I luv chix that work on cars. Luv ya Nikki!!
My bad,Sorry about that fallen, i wasnt even paying attention.
i agree with you about the chicks and cars thing.
P.S. Just wetsand it with 1200 unless there is a run. if there is a run, you can hit it with a lower grit and then go up to the higher grit.
well its finished, i did end up having to wet sand the clear too but , spray cans suck. the finish turned out great , real damn close to factory so thanks for all the info everyone gave.. its a lot of work for a spray can job i know but i only spent about 35 dollars total on the job and 2 body shops wanted 150 plus and one actually didnt want to do it at all
