Filling Small Hole
Thursday, May 12, 2005 11:30 AM
Some guy rear ended me last week and left an indentation of his front license plate bolt in my rear bumper (about the size of a dime). Is there a product out there that I can fill it with then paint? I don't want to have to replace the entire bumper.

Thanks.

What kind of bumper? stock? fiberglass? Aftermarket Urethane?

Either way you shouldn't have to replace the entire bumper for one bolt indentation...

If it's not a HOLE you can just use body filler or glazing putty to fill it in... or a urethane based compound if you would rather do that.

If its not a hole, then get a heat gun, and heat it up. Dont heat it up too much, do it on the back first and then slightly on the front. Wait about 5 seconds for the heat to make it all the way through, and then take the handle of a screwdriver and push on it from the back to get it to sit as flush as possible. Then if there is a gouge around it, use spot putty to fill it. If the plastic is stretched, and doesnt want to stay up, then take the head of a flat screw driver, push down on it from the front or back while its hot and then turn the screw driver. This will pull the plastic tighter to get rid of the shrinkage.

Try and cool the area while you have it pushed flush.
