I'm doing some body work on my old car, anyways I was looking at haynes and they describe how to do body repair.
Here are the steps:
1)Sand the area down to bare metal
2) big holes use mesh +filler, small holes fill with hardener/body filler
3)Sand down the filler to even it out
4) if there are any imperfections use glazing putty and sand
5) apply several thin coats of primer
6)sand
7)paint
Is this right? I didn't write the grit for the sanding parts because its in the book. Is this a good way to do it?
Not sure what your asking. But those are the basic steps to gettin it done. I guess it depends on what your trying to repair. if it's a big dent you're gonna wanna pull it out as much as you can. save yourself some time and money with that. then bondo. Sand, bondo some more and sand and then I recommend filler primer. it get's in the pin holes and it's cheap at mijers. Just prepare for alot of sanding. And wear a mask, that dust is not good for you at all.
ok cool, just wanted to ask about painting though, here is my way: sand, primer (several coats), paint, then final sanding with 1000 grit or rubbing compound. Is it a good idea to use clearcoat or enamel?
