Hey guys, I drive a white 99 fire GT and I was wanting to paint the rear trunk bezel and mirrors. I know the pieces are just plastic so could I just use a can of white krylon fusion then clearcoat it? I already have the paint from an interior project. I'm sure it wont' match my factory white paint exactly but I have white wheels as well, I dont' think it would look bad. Would this work? Also, how do I remove the trunk bezel?
sure can... get some primer too. i just painted my new trunk panel this morning. to remove the trunk panel, you can see the screws inside the trunk lid. open that up and you'll see the posts with the self tapping nuts on them. remove all of those (there's quite a few) and the trunk panel will come right off. once you have it off, clean it really well to get any road grime and crap off, then mask off the reverse lights and whatnot, spray a few coats of primer on it (let it dry really well). then, spray it with the color of your choice a few times and again let it dry. then top it off with a few layers of clear coat.
If I use Krylon Fusion its still a good idea to use a krylon primer? I didn't think you had to usea primer with fusion? Thanks for the removal info too cannon. I saw your post about the 03+ conversion, looks hot by the way. Let me know about that primer
not sure about using primer with fusion. i used all krylon paints to paint my trunk panel (primer, color and clear coat), but not fusion. i would still use primer just for the heck of it.
How did you get those fat rubber posts off? I tried taking one off and broke the head on it!
I got it off, nm about that...lol. The primer is drying as I'm typing. The way the pastic was molded the primer did not fill in some of the grooves on the plastic. Is there any way to smooth this out with a plastic filler or something?
Update: I got a Bondo plastic filler on there now. Just waiting for it to harden so it can be sanded off and re-primed.
Any pics on how it came out?
