Wireing the DRL's to the corners
Thursday, May 26, 2005 9:30 PM
Does anybody know how to change the drl's so that instead of turning on the headlights they turn on the parking lights?? I normally drive with my parking lights on anyway so this will just save me a step. I did do a search for this. Found lots of ways to disable the drl's completly but thats not what i want to do.

Thanks

Donovan

nope.

i can MAYBE give you some advice on a beta-run of how to do it, but no one's ever done it before, because technically, it "can't" be done....

but of course, im the headlight king......

The difficult way to do it is to try and make the DRLs turn on the corner lights.

The easier way to do it is to disable the DRLs entirely. Then put a relay on the ignition, so when the car is on, the corner lights come on.

Why make it harder than it has to be?

k so heres the deal.

At the bcm under the drivers side dash, in one of the outer connectors there is a Light Green/Black wire. this is the ground wire for the drl relay. so connect this to pin 86 of your new relay (that you can buy). pins 85 and 87 have to be fused constant 12V (same source). pin 30 will be connected to the parking light wire (thick brown in the driver kick panel).

that should work. mind you, it will keep your parking lights (front and rear) on whenever your headlights aren't on.

Thanks, I think I will just disable the DRL's altogether.

I looked at a print a while back... it's not possible to use the stock DRL relay to output to anything else. You'd have to wire in a new relay to do it. The problem is the stock DRL relay is part of the headlight system... so mess with it, and you screw up the headlight circuit and throw a code.
