my f uel gauge said i had 1/4 tank left but almost ran out of gas, is there any accurate way to reset the gauge? thanks
i dont think its your cluster
I've had my car die like that at the quarter tank mark. The only thing I could think of was of the quality of the gas. Everytime I would make a trip to a certain local gas station, my car always seemed to die with a quarter tank left to go. May try getting gas at a different place, seems to have worked for me. Haven't had trouble since.
My gas guage now just stopped reading! It says im at 3/4 of a tank, for the past 4 days....Im thinking about getting a new cluster....is there a short do you think possibly?
its probably not your cluster. its probably whatever is sending the signal to the cluster.
I had this same problem a week or so ago. I was out shopping at Wal-Mart late Saturday night...and when I arrived, my needle read I had a quarter tank. When I was finished shopping and came out, my car started fine...then I started driving up this slight incline towards the stop light and my car died. I figured for some reason my needle was off...so made the half mile trek at 2 a.m. to get gas (and a can) from the nearest gas station around. I put gas in my car and it worked fine. Fast forward a couple of days later, I was at Sonic picking up dinner and as I turn in, my car literally dies on me. I managed turn into the restuarant and park. Seconds later, my car restarted. When I finally got home and parked, I noticed that my gas needle was doing a little happy dance, rotating back and forth, going between the half way mark and "F" line. I took the next day off from work to have my car evaluated and come to find out that my fuel pump had gone defective and needed to be replaced. I had this confirmed by 2 different places and was told until I get that pump replaced...my car would continue cutting off on my at random (especially the lower on gas I got) so I bit the bullet and $500 later, my car was fixed and haven't had a problem yet...but it's barely been 2 weeks.
I'm not saying your problem may be the same thing that happened to me, but it wouldn't hurt to look into it.
