depends on the dent. If its on a spot where there is no supports behind it then they can do it outside. If there is a brace behind the metal they have to do it form teh inside. I know they use a tool and hit the dent and it pops back out. Seene it done a few tiems and its amazing how they do it. But as I said depends on the dent and location.

For best results remove any interior panel that is in the way.

I just had some work PDR done. On some dings where there was no access to the back of it, he applied some special hot glue, put a special suction cup on it, waited, and used a slide hammer to try to pull the dent out. I have never seen this technique before. Actually worked well.

The best results were from the common PDR rod tools and access from the back of the dings.

As for major dents, it pry depends on the PDR person, and if there are any body lines through it.

I had a nice sized dent on my front fender from a shopping cart. A guy i know was able to almost completly remove it from the inside with some sort of special hammer like tool. At certain angles all you can see is a couple tiny ripples.

if theres no structural supports behind it, theyll use a dolly and body hammer(let them do it....there are different kinds.....). if the spot is on a body support they may "persuade" it with a rubber mallet from the inside. theres also the dent popper(the industrial strength of whats sold on tv), but it only works on depression dents, it cant have a crease to it

When I had some dents poped on my trunk lid, they used suction cups and this toy looking rubber malet
