Did a search and didn't come up with anything. I would like to see were ya'll are putting the hood pins under the hood. If you could post pics of yours, it would be very helpful.
Thanks
sorry no under the hood pics but this will help
if you pop your hood you will see 2 bump stops that are coming out of the rad cover ( 2 little black knobs, you cant miss them) i just took them out and thats where the pins went. theres also 2 more. one on each side close to the fender. people put them there too.
Does anybody have a pic of their hood pins installed in the two outer bump stops?
PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!
hood pins are so ricey!!!! god i hate them, its makes some cars look so ridiculous!!! but itf thats what u like then ok
have you seen the posts when a stock latch fails? Thats why people use pins, If i didnt care about driving interstate for 40 mins every day to work and having my hood flap up and shatter a windshield and blind me from driving, i wouldnt use pins.
anyway here are my pics:
I dont have any that i can find which show the pins from the engine bay

How is something functional like hood pins ricey? Yes, ricey is put in a stock hood, or if u find some of those APC stickons, they are ricey, but when they serve a purpose on an actual CF or FG hood, they are there for more safety than anything. Safety of your investment, your life, your passengers life as well as those on the road if, god forbid, your hood DOES fly up on you while driving. I would drive over a bridge here without the pins and see my hood flapping and get scared @!#$less and end up driving 40 MPH, turning around to get my other car. I dunno D-Style, ive noticed a lot of posts u make are just plain ignorant

im protecting my investment. my buddies cowl hood flew up on his trunk, went threw the windshield and stuck to his dash. sorry with somethin' that light i dont trust the stock latch. whats an extra 20 bucks gonna hurt if you put out 500-600 bucks for a hood
On some hood you do need them . Some manufacturers will say you need hood pins if using their hoods because they do not put any bracing in the hood . If you have a stock hood then yeah they are like t*t's on a nun . But some C/F and F/G hoods do call for them . That is why you will see somepleces selling street hoods and then they carry racing hoods .

The reason I want the hood pins is cause I just installed my carbon fiber hood. Another member of the Gateway J's insists I get hood pins. Since i'm relitivley new to the J scene, I didn't know about the latch problem until I had bought the hood.
My wife got in a fender bender before I ordered my hood and it @!#$ up the stock latch and since brown and borwn chevy wanted like $100 for a new one I just said screw it and only use the barrel keyed hood locks and they work great. Was kinda at odds of where to put them with the invader hood but got them in fine. Pretty much the same place as Jeff....

Its amazing how people use the term "ricey" here when we are all ricing out our damn cars!!! lol
Oyyci wrote:little bit on topic here, i am getting an OEM style CF hood for my car, would you all reccomend me putting pins on? and do you need the latch if you hav pins?i kinda like how they look but if they would be just for looks it's not somethin i am gonna do now
Like I said above. I only use the hood locks and not the stock latch only because it was much cheaper to use them then get a new latch. I know the keyed locking pins work great on my car. Hell they work better then the stock latch ever did. I dont know how actual pins would work though. I would be too paranoid one of the pins would shake loose and a side of the hood would fold up. That and granted I dont have a whole butt load of mods in my engine bay but that is too easy access for my taste. Thats just me though I always think the worst.

How are hood pins going to shake loose? they cant. I have sparco hood pins on the cf hood on my truck and its impossible for them to shake loose. STLWACO depending on your hood, i would say use the two bump stops in the middle of the car. Does your car have the stock latch too?

Yes, but I had to shave some of it.
The hood is nothing fancy. Just an OEM style C/F.
I don't have hood pins. I have been debating the purchase, though.

its worth it. i travel over a bridge everyday to go to work and on windy days, especially going over the bridge, you can really see the hood shake. im glad theres pins holding it down. its just a nice extra insurance. as for it being easy access, thats why you leave the stock latch so they cant just open the hood.
STLWACO, go to the home page on Gateway JBO. Look under photos, miscellaneous. There are a ton of pics of JNight and Josh installing mine. It shows where they put the pins, drilling the hood, etc. Hope this helps!
You missed 2 important things in my last post..."paranoid" and...I always think the worst"
