It turnes out it is going to cost an insane amount of money to get the holes welded and the trunk lid repainted. ($300+) So i am going to have to do it the half ass way. Iwas wondering what the steps are and what type of filler i should use to fill these holes. '02 fire
thanks for any help guys.
TRY THIS FIRST! it'll cost about $20.00 and doesnt look bad at all. i have a 04 cav.
but i wanted the 99 toyota cav tai lights they were $300.00 new from g.m. so that didnt leave me the money to get the rk sport carbonfibre filler i needed to cover the holes.
after kicking around a few ideas none of which i thought would look good i desided to
see about using a piece of vynle to cover across the rear of the car. it works great,
I already had black racing strips so i used black vynle . but since your cars white it should be easy to match. and no it doesn't look ghetto. and you can beet it for the money.

thanks, but I do have white vinyl stickers covering the holes right now. it works good as a temporary fix but you can tell that i am covering something up. I want to fill it and then paint the filler
thats cool. you cant tell any holes are under mine and like i said for $20.00 you cant go wrong. but i know what you mean when i get the rest of my bodykit pieces i'm gonna replace my deck lid with one that doesn't have the holes.
anyway if you want to do it with body filler yourself get the filler that has fiberglass in it
its much stroner and should be able to stand up to it ok. you' ll need to put at least a temp cover on the inside to keep the filler from falling in. it will be easier to do this
with the trunk open that way gravity wont be trying to pull it down. sand the area around the holes a little then mix the filler as per instructions and the fiberglass type sets up pretty quick so dont take you time or you'll be mixing up another batch. get a spreader
and then just plop some on and spead it down. dont push too hard cause remember
the filler will be pushing thru in the inside and all you have for support is tape or vynle.
once it dries and cures, i'd give it a couple days just to be on the safe side then just sand smooth prime and paint. dont forget to wet sand it befors priming after priming
and after each one of you first two coats of paint after that hit it about three more coats of paint then if you feel brave enough wet sand it again VERY LIGHTLY buff it out
with polishing compound and hit it with about three costa of clearcoat.
i know it seems like a lot but do it right the first time and it will look great.
you may also want to hit the library to pick up some books on body work that way you
can see pictures.
b.t.w. for the wet sanding use like 2000 grit emory cloth. i've found it works the best
and if you decide to wet sand the final coat of paint before you clear it i'd go with like
3000 - 4000 grit and then use an orbital buffer to polish it.
any other questions please feel free to ask.

go to a junk yard and find one with out a spoiler on it, then get it painted.
then its done the correct way.
dont have ass the job, you will regret it later! trust me.

umm no it wont. i've done this type of stuff before and i've never had any problems.
thats why i said to use the fiberglass type is stronger then reg filler. this is the only other way other then welding them which he said was too expensive. besides how cold does it get in cali. anyway.

Do it the right way! Believe me.

i can't find a sunfire without a spoiler. it's like they don't exist. maybe it is worth it to just have a body shop weld and repaint the entire lid. dammit i hate holes
ryan dude nice cav! i agree it should be done the right way but if he really wants to do
it doesnt have the cash and just cannot wait then the way i said is gonna give him the best results but kase just keep in mind that after a few years it will start to crack.
if you do the welding it will be perm. but what i told you should hold you till you can
aford to do it right.

im just telling you from experience. all my friends think its the right way to do it other than welding. they all tried to shave their moldings on their hatchs ( held in by screws ) and it doesnt work. the only way to get it to work is put a screw in there and grind it down so the filler has something to hold to. just filling it over a holes, isnt going to work

4 door lid is the same as a cav 2 door lid, but not the same as a sunfire 2 door lid.
yeah dont be lazy. do it the right way. you'll regret it if you dont. you'll spend more money fixing it over and over again then if you just do it right the first time.
Stick bolts in the holes and grind them down then use filler on top of em, after grinding the bolts down nock it in a little with a hammer then use filler and smooth it out.
