I read the other post on the sunfire taillights, and i didnt know if this followed that thread so i posted it on a new one, the euro lights are hideous looking, what are my other options? and what can i do about that stupid piece in the middle of my trunk with the light up pontiac word.

The other options for the tails are:

1) Custom fab your own -- or --
2) Tint them with spray tint. -- or --
3) Settle with the APC bug eyes -- or --
4) Leave them as stock.

Unfortunately, us Sunfire owners do not have much in the line of aftermarket tails.

As for the second question, you can have it painted to body color, or repainted black.

RKSport used to carry a trunk bezel (the technical term for the "stupid piece in the middle with the light up pontiac word") done out of Carbon Fiber, however, it may be unavailable as it is not listed on their website.

-- or --

you can do a 03+ rear conversion. basically swap the tail lights, trunk panel and rear bumper for those of a 03+ sunfire. you need all three things to do the swap though. it is a direct bolt up.

not to sound like too much more of an idiot, but what is the trunk panel? I keep seeing reference to it and i have no idea what anyones speaking about

it's the black plastic piece on your trunk lid that the license plate bolts to.

@ Kardain: There is one more option, get the APC Retro 3D taillights and paint them to match the color of the car, which doesn't look quite as bad, but I still prefer the painted trunk panel and stock taillights myself.

Also, Dave Eichorn has a '96 Sunfire meaning he wouldn't be able to use the carbon fiber trunk bezel from RK Sport unless he did the '03+ rear end swap. Just pointing that out so he (Dave) realizes that .

I painted my trunk panel to match the color of my car and in my opinion it makes a huge difference. It stands out, but looks subtle at the same time.

I'm going to try to make my stock tails look similar but unique to the '03+ euros by masking off, cutting out the design, and spray tinting them.

i spray tinted mine along with all my markers and front turn signals with nite shades. and when i get my new spoiler im repainting my whole trunk lid to match my car.

Didn't think about painting the bug eyes. Still don't think that would make 'em any better.

Also as for the CF bezel, thanks for the clarification on 03+. Guess it would have helped if the year range was included in this here group purchase... where I originally saw it, otherwise I may never have mentioned it. If it is included there, it's somewhere buried in the 200 posts.

so, what about the trunk bezel, that can just be painted over to match the car? Obviously i would disconnect the lights in it. Whats this spray tint i keep hearing about, is it similar to window tint?, does the light have trouble shining through the tint?

Yes, the trunk bezel can just be painted over. I would highly recommend just having it painted by a professional. It will look much better and it's really not that expensive. I had my wiper arms, wipers and trunk bezel painted for $275. Just make sure they put enough coats of paint over the PONTIAC logo so light doesn't shine through it. The didn't put enough coats on mine and at night you can sort of see it, but it doesn't really look too bad so I'm not worried about it.

The spray tinit is called VHT Nightshades. You should be able find it at Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc. It is actually the spray equivalent of the blacked out headlight and taillight covers. How much the light will shine through depends on how many coats you put on the light. The more coats you put on, the less the light will shine through.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, so I'll just post a picture of an '03+ rear end . The trunk panel and bezel are the same thing though, I don't know why I posted trunk bezel instead of trunk panel, I'm just retarded I guess .

Do the '03 taillights fit around the rear side panels? It looks like the edges are pointier on the newer taillights than the older ones.

they are pointier, but it's the shape of the bumper that makes them pointier, not the quarter panel.
