hey im in california, and i was wondering if it was illegal to put red LED's in the front of you car, not replacing the normal lights but as accents, thank you.
In FL its illegal, and it might be illegal in california.......

Yes adding red or blue lights to the front of your vehicle is against the law.
Those are emergency vehicle colors, even headlights that are too blue can get you a ticket.
Amber, yellow, and green are the only legal ones I know of, even white side markers or turns are spozed to be illegal, but most cops won't pull you over for it.

green is not legal anywhere on the vehicle in Ca.

yea...all these colors means something, in all states its different...here its red is emergency...blue volunteer , green incident command, amber is slow moving vehicle/public works/tow trucks, purple is for a funeral
green and purple are the only color headlights that are legal over hereeven saw two duster with those color lights yesterday passing a cop and he did nothing!

off the cop they can try to say impersonating an officer. In short don't do it.

gdi oh well back to my plan of leaving them off while driving. maybe i can figure something out. my other question is how the hell do people get away with all those red neons in their car while they drive??

common error amongst people and officers alike.. ive went to court about 5 different times for my blue leds underbody.. no where in the vehicle code book does it state that blue is illegal.. u can have red and blue underbody however red cannot me on in the front.. Brandon it sounds like you and I have alot in common. I don't take crap from cops either and it pisses them off no end when you know the law better then they do. I know this is off topic but I had to comend you for not putting up with there s--t. Way to go man!

very true. BUT...you have now have paid 50.00 to tell them they are wrong. see, they can still pull you over and site you, but you have to go to court to prove innocents every single time. by doing so you have to pay 10.00 per ticket for court fees. well thats what it was like 10 yrs ago. i dont know what it is now. i wish you luck and have fun.

very true. court is free if u fix it and send it in its 10.00 .. theres only a couple cops who worry about teh blue lights anyway as long as the bulbs are HIDDEN and just a GLOW there legal.. i havent been to court oh hell for awhile like 6months atleast and i cruise all the time with them on.. and flashing at that.. i know flashing is illegal but i still do it.lol and never get pulled over i think they know i dont put up with it..

LOL Paul, it looks like you are in front of a NJFD house, so i would think you would fall under the emergency vehicle(fire department).
If a cop wanted to get anyone for any colored or different lights on your car he can, and just write it up as a visible distraction, also anything hanging from your rearview mirror can be the same.Unfortunatly this is left up to the discretion of the officer, if they are distracting or not.
In IN, IL, AZ, and a few others I can't remember right now, Blue or Red lights on the front of your vehicle anywhere(including undercar lighting), when vehicle is in motion, is illegal. There is no law against Green yet around me, even a few patrol cars around here have the turn signals.
But no emergency vehicles use green around here.
Dr,. Paul..... actually your lights are legal.... since you are a fire fighter you are aloud to have them on your truck.
blue and red are "emergency vehicle" indicators. Which is why cops are pricks about them. red and blue should be illegel everywhere. some places don't really care.
blue is not a emergency color.. lol everyone thinks that it says it NO WHERE ABOUT BLUE... only red your lights would be illegal if you can see the bulb which is looks like 50/50 if u hid them and they glow down in the grill it wouldnt be illegal
I had a police officer pull me over once for impersonating an officer because of a little switch I had that had a blue LED on the tip or it. It was in the center of my dash pointing down to the floor, you couldnt see it from the front but you kinda could if looking in the rear window. Well anyways, after 30 min of waiting for him to discuss it with another officer that arrived they finally let me go. Stupid cops always trying to get us on something.
blue usually means snow removal.
we dont get snow in socal. so yea hah.
