I've seen a lot of cavs with parts of the headlights and corner lights painted black and Ive been wanting to get this done for the longest time now.
I just want to get this done with out messing it up, so what I need to know is how to get the lenses off properly and how to paint them properly with out breaking my lights or having paint flaking problems in the future.
Any how to knowledge would be great.
I almost forgot I have the 2k headlights and corners
the last post in the exterior faq has a link to taking apart the headlights

headlights are easy. take them out, use a razor blade or xacto knife to cut the original sealant around the edge. there are little tabs you'll run into with the knife, lens cover pops off.
mask everything off you dont want paint on, do a few coats til it looks nice. let dry. and seal back up with clear silicone. again let it cure for a few hours. reinstall and you're done.
to do the corner lenses i would recommend cutting with a dremel. the oven method is tricky.

wow. i take headlights apart at least 3 times a week, and i have never had it go that easy. the easiest headlights i have taken apart were the 03+ cavie headlights. just 4 minutes in the oven at 325' and the lens pulled right off with a screw driver. all the other years of cavies and fires i do not like to take apart. the 95-02 fires and the 95-02 cavies need to be left in the oven for about 7-9 minutes at 375'-400'. the 03+ fires are tricky. they have two points on the lenses that like to disfigure if you use either too much heat, or too long of time. so to be safe, i would go with 350' for 6 minutes, try to pry around the edges, then put back in for another 4 minutes keeping an eye on the two corners. as for the '00 cavie, i wouldnt know yet.
i wish you luck, be careful, and have fun.
PS: this is all based on my experiances. results may vary due to different manufactures, years and possibly climents and elevations. please do not tell me "NO, i only had to put mine in...", and such comments.

The headlights are the factory parts the corners are apc, the corners have started to leak so looks like the perfect time to get it done.
So i have cutting or heating to look at.
The only thing im wandering about is the painting, will the paint stay stuck to the chrome inside.
Thanks for the help on this guys.
