The Exterior FAQ thread has a few links to threads that have been purged. I've been thinking about shaving my handles and locks, what is all exactly needed? Just solenoids and something to activate them? Where would be a good place to get them, and what size?
How much work is it to cover the holes that will be left behind? Would it pay to have a shop do it?
I personally had a shop do the welding.... price all depends on who you know and where you get it done. You don't need the actual poppers.. All you need is the solenoids and the remote... Altogether it cost me 300 for the solenoids kit from autloc(which I would not recommend to anyone...its a piece of @!#$, I hear spal is really good) the wiring is not that hard do it yourself. Nice mod and makes the car look so nice and smooth on the outside...Definetly worth it
i paid 120 for my kit off ebay, this car is my Daily Driver. biggest mistake ever, ill never do it to another daily driver. does look alot better though.
oh and i got the spal kit
get poppers. people say you dont need them but if you live in an area that gets really cold, its not a bad idea. personally i would get 50lb kit from spal and have a shop do all the welding. just set it all up (wiring and all) have it all working, take it to the shop and just let them weld the handles and holes
i have the SPAL 50lb kit on my daily driver with vertical doors. I LOVE IT! its a bit of a pian but its totally worth it! I did it all myself so sorry cant help you wit price. i got my kit from a hot rod shop near me but goto jason@aplusperformance he can get you a good deal. if your not an experinced welder then it would be worth it to have a shop do it or atleast one of your friends that is. good luck
your car will look really good if you do it.
Paid $200 for an Autoloc kit about 2 years ago(Biggest POS kit ever). Had my coworker weld the holes shut using sheetmetal I cut at work. Did the bodywork and priming myself. I went thru 4 autoloc solenoids so far. The bodyshop is supposed to be getting me SPAL ones.
I also got rid of the "brain" that came with the autoloc kit and wired the solenoids thru my 2 auxillary functions on my alarm remote.
