Convertible Tops

How do the convertible tops work on the 3 gen Cavalier and Sunfires that featured them. I know they weren't power tops. I guess what I'm asking is are they like the Mazda Miata tops? Are you able to put down the top without having to leave the car or would one need to get out of the car to put the top down and back up.

Just something that piqued my interest, that's all.

-hold in a button, pull out a lever, hold the lever back while the top raises/lowers itself
-The tops are power
-you can lower the roof from inside the car
-there is a manual release in case the motors go

i've got a 98 sunfire with a convertible top that doesnt go up or down on its own, the motors try and move but dont get the top anywhere i've gotta pull the lever and move the top at the same time (a 2 person job) is there a switch anywhere that i can manually move the top up and down?
