Vis hoods and hood pins
Sunday, December 18, 2005 9:35 PM
Several guys on the org have hood pins with their carbon fiber hoods and a lot don't. Do the vis hoods need pins cause on their website it says that they do. Are they cosmetic exclusively or are they needed for extra safety. The one I'm specifically looking at is the vis evo for a 2004 cav. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've had my VIS evo hood on my 02 and my 99 and never once had a problem. knock on wood.., it latches just like stock.

they are recommended... but not required. it's your choice basically. i don't have hood pins on mine because i prefer the look of it without, but there are people who like the added safety and security of having the hood pins there just in case.

Better safe than sorry, thats why I have them. Better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them. Its just a good piece of mind for me...

What does that have anything to do with hood pins?

wind gets under the hood and sometimes catches the latch. the faster your going, the more chance of it happening. whats an extra 20 bucks to protect a $500 investment

I've gone over 85 in mine a few times and it stays perfectly in place, doesn't move at all. once again...knock on wood, but if you have it installed correctly and don't allow space for the wind to get under the hood you should be fine. And I personally think hood pins look kinda cheap and tacky but that might just be me.

^^^well mine would move around a little bit when doing 505 or above. everything lined up great, but i just didnt trust the fiberglass to hold the latch forever. it could rip out pretty easily. scared me into doing hood pins

but this was also on the 03-05 so there was alot more space for air to get under the hood as compared to the 95-02

the company just recomends them so if something does happen they can not be held responsible.

i agree, accept when the $20 part ruins the $500 investment. my VIS hood spiderwebbed after a while because of the pins. i never really needed them, got them just in case, then i wished i hadnt put them on. ruined a perfectly good hood.
