Riveting into fiberglass? Quick question.

I have the Redline Tuning hood struts right now, I love em!

Though I am inquiring a CF hood with a fiberglass underside, and I want to double check that the rivets that hold the brackets in, will still work in fiberglass?

Juicy James has gotten away with using these still on a fiberglass hood, and it really puts no tension on the hood when latched, about half way down or so they have no holding power what-so-ever.

they popped out of my cf hood with a fiberglass bottom, james mate some extra metal strips to hold them better so i would ask him

yes sir, I bought a piece of 1/8 inch think and 1/2 inch wide steel, bent it to fit my hood underside, then drilled holes to match up with the brackets, and it was longer to have a extra hole on each side, so instead of 2 rivets holding the weight, I have 4 on each side. Speads out the force to a larger area, and I used larger rivets. I'll go back and see if I can find the thread in the archives. I had pics of them close up.

The metal was 5inches long, I held the metal with a pair of vise grips, then bent it by hand till the curve matched the hood.

DRILL ALL YOUR HOLES IN THE STEEL BEFORE YOU PUT IN ON THE CAR, then mark the holes, and VERY CAREFULLY DRILL OUT THE CF or Fiberglass.

If you want help let me know.

Remember the white hood? Seemed like forever ago.

Back from the dead, just got to thinking about it. I think I've had this hood for about 5 years now, the rivets still hold strong. Matter of fact, I've had the hood on/off SEVERAL times and there seems to be NO signs of them coming loose or anything like that.

Thought I would bring it bakc for people who wanted to use the struts with a Glass hood.

Is there a tut anywhere, or can someone explain to me how to install these or give better pictures of the lower mounting too. I'd love to take a set off a grand am or something at the junkyard and put these on my stock hood. I hate having it the way it is stock.

so these arent causing any warpage on your fiberglass/cf hoods?

I always wanted some, but thought they tweaked the hood slightly.

mines not warping yet, it helped when i got the struts, my hood used to dance a bit in the wind on the hi-way, stays still now cuz its got some pressure on it

tweak the hood slightly? man.. the stock hood prop does this way more than these struts ever would.

if you leave the hood open long enough the driver side sags a little bit because the prop is holding up the passenger side.

And I should've been drown in the rivers I've found in token lost...

thats why you put the stock prop to the center and stick it through the catch on the hood

I was refering to when it was closed actually. The pressure from the struts is shown to cause a slight bulge in the hood where they are attached.....thats why I didnt order them.

Looks at pics of my car, I don't see any buldges. The pic of my car in my sig, very good angle to be able to judge.
