Polishing Clear Plastic
Monday, February 06, 2006 6:26 PM
Well I got some new headlights for the 03 conversion from J Easy (great guy to deal with), but since they are used, they have a rough texture to the lenses. I need to find something to polish them with and bring them to a smooth finish.

Anything out there that I can use to polish the plastic?

i was watching the Mothers Car Show series a while back and "the chemist" suggested to use some aluminum polish to take out the scratches, then use the plastic polish to bring out the shine. just a suggestion

You can get 2000 grit from Autozone or even Walmart.

I'll try some of whats posted above on my spare headlight, and post back in a bit.

WD40 + 2000 Grit Sandpaper + Clear plastic = swirly fog

Rubbing compound & terry cloth seems to do a pretty good job though.

Glad to read this thread, my headlights are pitted as hell and my fog beams barely make it out of the housing.

i had old 60's camaro tail lights that needed clean up. I went with 2,000 grit. Then turtle wax rubbing compound, And then the polishing comp. All the scratchs and swirls and foggy look was gone the lights looked brand new!
