well i tried searching and didnt find anything.. But maybe i used the wrong keywords? Who knows.. Anyway. A local junkyard sells Aftermarket OEM Fenders that are in black primer..
Pic of a car at the junkyard with these aftermarket fenders and hood
Well anyway my question is, has anyone had experience with these kinda fenders for fitment? I understand that i will need to align them.. but i mean has anyone had problems with them not fitting right in certain areas or something? Just curious cuz i plan to buy a fender and there only $45 each so i didnt think that was a bad deal. I figured if the junkyard is selling them and using them that they should be good but i just wanted to get some peoples preference on them.. Guess if it doesnt fit i can always take it back for a refund?
Thanks for any info.
I think you misunderstood me when you IM'd me. To the best of my knowledge, those are actual GM OEM fenders and are no different than the ones that came on the car. They aren't in black primer, but rather that is the actual color of the metal and they are shipped from GM in just that state.
if those are not the OEM ones, then i knwo the ones those are, i have them LOL. They are flat black and looke xactly like the ones in the pictures. Lets say they um fit lol. THey are pretty thin and i needed to do alot of bending and pushing to get them to align, but they finlaly did. You will need to do a fair amount of "hand" rolling on them thouhg, but once you do they look fine and act just like the originals

hmm interesting.. has me wondering on these but doesnt seem to bad...
that is called e-coat you see on the fenders
you say aftermarket oem ??? makes no sense
if it is oem sheet metal you will have no problems
if it`s aftermarket crap you will have a @!#$ty fit you will have to make hols bigger use a spoon dolly to make it fit the door, to make the hood fit and close the right way is such a big pain in the ass i can`t even begin to explain
good luck
can i haz bondo
yep definetly e-coat
what he means is there aftermarket , but has the apperence of an oem fender(not a z3 or w/e) ..fm what ive learned those fenders will fit decent about 20% of the time and yes the metal is pretty thin on them
Alright, well thank you for giving me things to look out for on them.
I have had good and bad luck installing after market body parts.
I would have to say it's closer to 60% good fitment, compaired to actual GM replacement parts, I have had GM parts actually require more work then aftermarket to line up.
Nik, I'm not sure you can get any thinner metal then the factory fenders, it would be called rice paper if you could.
They could be NOS (new, old stock), that's what car manufacturers do for older cars that are out of production (such as the Cavalier). The Cavalier is still pretty new, but that's the jist of it. Basically they're the exact same thing you get on the car when it's new. The parts are all mass produced at the factory and when they stop building that line of car, they have all these parts left. Fenders, doors, whatever. It becomes catalogued as NOS and they store the parts in warehouses so when someone wrecks a car or whatever, the parts to make repairs are still available. When the NOS parts run out, then aftermarket manufacturers start producing reproduction fenders to OE specs. And yes, they will work, and yes, they will take a little fitting. They all do wether you get them from GM or another source. Just get yourself some body shims, take your time, and it'll be ok.
Opfer benotigt. Keine Erfahrung notwendig.
Victims needed. No experience necessary.
The only parts that are gonna fit like the originals are the CAPA certified parts and the GM OEM parts. The same goes for any car manufacturer. I know, I've learned my lesson in the past. Pay more now to get the part that is gauranteed to fit, or pay more later on down the road when you find out the cheap part that you bought won't fit for @!#$.
