How hot does the oven need to be, and how long do the housings need to be in the oven, to be able to melt the caulk and pull the clear cover from the corner light housing of a stock 2000 Cavalier? I would like to paint the housing. Thank You.

Hey guys....

I baked my headlights....350 to preheat then 300 when the headlights are in....just for a few minutes. Make sure you remove the wiring and bulbs and put the big circular cover back in the hole to keep it round. We kept them in there for about 3 mins...then carefully checked it. If it needed more we just left it in there for a few minutes at a time. You do the same thing to rebond them. It worked wonderfully and i am very happy with the results!

By the way, that's a great "how-to" I didn't put back any lenses cause well I just didn't want them, but your lights look awesome...

I warped a lens and cracked the other (lack of patience).

When I did my headlights I just left a MAPP gass torch on as low as I could and kept heating up the blade of my utility knife and it cut it like butter, I was to scared to put brand new headlights in the oven I guess. They turned out great so whatever works for you!

That's a great idea....I was nervous too, but my friend had done it to his car with no problems so I trusted him.
