Any of you guys that have painted over your tail lights on the 03-05 and left the circles for the brake lights and reverse lights have any problems with the paint chipping off? I took it down to the body shop and the guy said he didnt think it would stick because it was plastic, he suggested using vinyl.

as long as you prep the plastic right its fine....your bumper is plastic, that paints just fine, lights are no different, i even survived a winter, and many high pressure car washes.

but yeah vinyl would work too i guess

Not sure if this would be the same thing. But I'd say it's just like prepping other plastic parts of your car. Like I did my mirrors and handles. Just took lots of sanding, and some plactic adhesive primer before regular primer, it turned out fine, and have had no problems. I think I got the plastic adhesive promoter at advance.

its the exact same as painting a mirror or door handle, its just red plastic instead of black, its all plastic.....hell i didn't even use a primer, mabey should have, but paint and clear works just fine for me, it looks like the car was made that way

mines held up for almost 3 years now, they were sanded to take the glaze off, primer, base and clear, and been great ever since. I have been hassled by the cops for painting over reflectors (our laws require a certain amount of reflector in the rear). But it looks so much better, its worth it.
