I recently ordered some OEM foglights for my 03 cavalier. I know that they came on the LS Sports, but mine is just a LS and i have a few questions about how they'll hook up.
First off, how do the lights mount to the bumper? Is there just a bracket that bolts up to the openings in the bumper?
In order to keep it clean looking, i plan on getting the OEM foglight/dimmer switch. Is there also some sort of wiring harness to wire them in or will i just have to wire them in myself? I don't believe that my car has the harness already installed, so i expect having to do the wiring myself.

2k+ Cavs all use the same fog light, whether it be Z24 or LS Sport. The answer here is the bumper is made for the fog lights, no brackets or anything, where they bolt in the bumper is molded specifically for. With the LS Sport bumper this would be much easier for you.

Good question, I'd almost say it's easier to do the wiring yourself though, and it isn't too difficult.

There are brackets that are needed to mount them. The brackets should be included with the lights. They mount it to the actual bumper behind/under the bumper cover. You will also probably need to cut out the openings in the corners of the bumper cover where they normally go though as I believe that right now your has a piece of plastic across right where they go. To my knowledge the LS bumper cover doesn't have the oval molded openings that the Z24 or LS Sport bumper covers do.

so i'm going to have to cut out the plastic in the holes (circled in yellow)? i'm fine with that. i like the look of the oem foglights over just some random pep boys ones. (ps not my car, but its exactly like that)
yup you will have to cut that out...

i didint know that the bumper covers made w/o fog lights could house fog lights..
i dont think my 00 one could have.. i had to get the one made for the fogs so that the brackets would bolt up
i may be mistaken tho
I dont know about installing the stock fog lights, but I recently researched installing a stock switch for my aftermarket lights. I found that you have to buy the whole dimmer switch assembly and the switch seperately. At the dealership, the switch is like $30 and the dimmer is like $40. If your willing to spend 70 bucks for a switch, then go for it.
repeat after me... WRECK YARD!!
Don't pay $70 for the dimmer assembly go to the wrecker and get one off a junker...

From what I've been told by the 3 different Chevrolet dealerships I've been to in the past and the one body shop I've been to in my area (very reputable and knowledgable of most domestics they work on) the Base/LS bumpers were not designed to house OEM foglights on Cavaliers. I've even been told that the holes for the foglights on the LS Sport bumpers are slightly different that the holes that can be found on the Base/LS bumpers...now I don't know how true that is, or if it's remotely true at all. From what I was told, there are no brackets on those bumpers and no place within the bumpers where brackets could be safely mounted for installation of OEM foglights. When I was involved in the accident with my car about two years ago, I inquired into the bodyshop about adding OEM foglights (since I had a little extra money) to my base model bumper and they wouldn't do this for that reason. Furthermore I have always been told that in order to install OEM foglights, I would need atleast the LS Sport/Z24 front bumper in order to do this. Now I've seen other cars (I believe on car domain) that had the base bumper like my car and managed to fab something in order to get OEM foglights mounted, so if you don't want to go the LS Sport route...I guess this is possible with some type of fabrication to your current bumper.

I actually inquired about this as well in the past and was told that this was more than just a simple swapping of switches and running wires and what not to get the foglights to work. Our cars do not have the wiring harnesses preinstalled like the LS Sports do so that will be something that will need to be installed if you want your foglights to work like that of OEM foglights on the LS Sport Cavalier. I forget the exact details but from what I was told there is a lot of work involved and it's not cheap. I was quoted at about $700 (yes $700 really) for the Chevrolet dealership in my area to install OEM foglights in my Cavalier and to get them working and functioning like they would in a factory LS Sport Cavalier. I even read somewhere on the net where a guy was paid like $1,000 or so to have the foglights done on his car so they would look factory. I'm not sure if he was ever on the org, but he too had an LS Cavalier and had this conversion done (along with the LS Sport body kit). I would imagine if one is doing custom wiring the costs would be greatly cheaper than paying a dealership tech or some bodyshop tech to do it for them.
As far as your foglights, where are you getting them from? I noticed that some places on the net just sell the housings only and not the complete set up, such as
Parts Train, which is only meant to be used as replacements if one's housing should be destroyed/damaged due to some kind of accident. I would hate for you (or anyone else) to feel shafted as to not getting what you thought you paid for when you bought the product. In any case, here's a link to a few threads that should help you out when it comes to installing OEM foglights....
03-05 Foglights?
is this the right way to wire fogs on a car w/o ?

2004 Foglights
If I'm wrong on anything I said, I'm sure someone on this board will correct my errors.
if i decide to get the oem foglights i can get them for 48 apiece (no shipping) from keystone and the switch w/dimmer panel for 12 something from the gm dealer.
i called about the wiring and they said to check under/behind the dash. if it were already wired, there would be a plug in for it. the foglight wiring in ls sports is wired with the rest of the engine wiring harness....not worth the 700 or whatever you were quoted.
fortunately my brother-in-law has an 03 LS sport so if it is nice out tomorrow, we're going to look at his and see if it will work. i'll be sure to let everyone know what i find out.
this isn't something i need to do, it's just something i looked into doing with part of my tax return. if they won't work, i might look into going to a junkyard to see if i can find the LS sport bumper in arrival blue. if not, oh well...i tried. may also check work (pep boys) to see if i can find some that would be close as far as shape and whatnot.
thanks for the help and for not flaming me. it's becoming increasingly more difficult to get a legit answer without being flamed.
i bought some PIAA's and installed them in the bumper after cutting out the little grill dealy on the base 03+ cav. bumpers.
installing really sucked as i didnt know exactly where to mount them. i ended up bolting the fog light bracket to actual metal bumper behind the "bumper cover"
the fitment was ok but i shouldve double checked the size of the lights as the did not fill up the holes all the way
hope this helps a little.
Those look a hell of a lot better than most i've seen. I'll definitely keep those in mind if the OEM ones don't work.
Do you have a part number or anything on the PIAA lights? I could probably get them for relatively cheap through work.
"PIAA p1000" driving lights.
