Hey guys, looking for some good help here.
Its not exactly for my car, but for my friends 04 Mazda 3. He got an awesome deal on some Eurolite "Elite" series underbodys and installed them. Now here is where it gets strange. For a day or so, they were working just fine. The car running and off they worked fine. All of a sudden they wouldn't work when the car was running. When you hit the switch, the underglows just flash, but shut off right away. It does the same problem randomly now when the car is off, they just flicker. Thw switch stays illuminated when they shut off, showing that power is still getting to it, but they aren't on.
The hook up is as is . . .
Underglows -> Transformer ---> battery -->Switch
The instructions say to use a "Bosche style relay", but we didn't use one seeing as I didn't use one when I installed mine. Would installing the relay really effect the difference here? We tested to see if power was getting to everything, wires, transformer, etc. We tested the ground to make sure it was good and everything is good. The fuse, wires, etc are all good as well.
So the problem, the lights flash when you turn them on when the car is running, but occasionally they work just fine when the car is off. So could the problem be with the switch, the transformer, or the missing relay? I don't exactly know all that much about relay's, so I'm not sure if they'd fix an issue like this. Any ideas, or anyone here about this before?
Sorry for the long post guys, but I haven't seen a problem like this while installing underglows before?
Maybe this is in the wrong forum? Someone has gotta know something more about electronics -_-
My streetglows used to do this, it could be cause by:
Bad ground on the transformer or a loose wire connecting the bulbs. Undo all your bulbs again (just the wires) and re-do it, see if that helps.
Same problem here, but mine dont work fine at all. Only time they did work fine was when I had all wires ran outside the car to test them. I have redline neons though. I know all the connections are good, soldered, taped, then heat shrink tubing. Just bought a relay but not sure exactly how to hook it up. Hopefully that works.
I had that problem for a lil bit with my UFO series eurolites, come to find out one of the wires actually burnt through the shrink wrap and was touching the other one burning the 2 tryin to catch on fire. look at all connections and see if there is anything wrong there. no problems since on mine and its amost 3 years old.

The relay could be a possible reason, but 01Cav, your response caught my attention. Its like I said, the lights were working just fine for about a day or so, and then they suddenly started doing this. They used to work when the car was off, but now its iffy and they do the same problem. Meaning, that something went awkward after the lights were already installed. Since there is no relay on them and the instructions recommended one, it just may be possible that the voltage has gone too high and burned through one of the shrinkwraps you mentioned and could cause the awkward flash/no flash. I'll look into this, thanks.
