Ordering a type j kit few questions
Sunday, May 07, 2006 5:19 PM
Hey all i have finaly decided that i want to go with a rksport type j kit. I have had my share of fiberglass and i am sick of it. with the chipping and cracking and all that fun crap. i had a few questions before i decide who to order from.

1. how is the fitment on the kit? Every part of my fiberglass kit has been hell. every part has needed cut and reglassed back together.

2. how strong is urathane? i was told unline fiberglass a rock wont bust it.

final question anyone ever ordered from http://www.carcustoms.net/ ? i see they got free shipping on all there stuff and unlike rksport they want close to $300 for shipping on the kit. and carcustoms the shipping is free. Is there kit they are selling a knock off kit or is it the real type j kit?

i have that kit... and i will tell u that it is more durable than a fiberglass kit, but if it gets cracked or busted, u cant fix it... also, the side skirts dont stick to the body to well with the recomended 3m 2 sided tape. see my post. over all i think that it is a great kit, fits right on, no cutting, or fab work required. install is pretty easy, make sure your splash guards are in good shape or are new. moulding these kits on is very costly.. that is y i havent done it yet.

Karo (Carcustoms) sells RK stuff, but cheaper and shipped free. I'd definately get it from him. RK kits fit great, and urethane is great stuff.

Definately get it from Karo though.

yea they are who i am going to order from. i just wanted to make sure it was not some kind of cheap knock off kit that they put the type j title on you know what i mean. like a lot of companys do with fiberglass kits they get a cheap knock off verison of the kit and put like bomex title on it.

urathane is a lot harder to bust then FG from what i understand. i mean for instance when they where installing my drift back bumper they busted it to all hell and back. when i say busted i mean cracked the dam thing is 2 pieces.

just going to take me a little bit of overtime at work to save up to afford the kit.

the only problem i've seen with urethane type J is the front grooves..that the paint seems to kinda chip

because its plastic and has that ability to bend so much

urethane fits almost perfect thats why its so expensive because of the quality. the kit is strong and will flex back if you bounce it off something. it can break though it just takes more than a glass kit to break. unlike glass though, if it does break, its a bitch to repair.

karo is a great guy to deal with and the kit isnt a knock-off kit. i think your problem w/ all your glass kits were because they were cheap versions of kits which usually result in them not fitting at all

That's the paint, not the kit. Your painter didn't use enough flex agent. I had my type-j on my car for 4 years. I drove it to every show. I live in Detroit and drove to Miami, Atlanta, Toronto, Indy, etc. many, many times. I ended up with only 1 stone chip that you couldn't hardly notice. I didn't have any chipping, peeling, etc.

And yes, I got mine from Car Customs back in the day. Absolutely loved it. RK makes great kits and Karo is a great guy to them buy from.

I've never cracked any of my RK urethane kits. I've run into parking curbs and it just flexes back in shape. Hell, when the car was on the lift getting the engine replaced my skirts just flexed around the lift arms and went right back into their proper shape when they took the car off a week later.

my skirts on my car are urethane and i cut a corner in a parking lot and folded them bitchs compleatly under, the poped right back into place, and only thing i had to repair was the paint.

again im gonna have to say thats because you bought a cheap kit that didnt have lots of layers to it. my glass kit, i actually hit a bottle in the road yesterday which i didnt see due to the other car in front on me and it didnt my kit at all. urethane is really strong and usually things will bounce off it. it has its limits though and will break, just takes alot more abuse to break it

here... you want to know how strong urethane is? check out these pics of my car. i had a bunch of wood fly off a truck and hit my front end.... windsheild... gone, hood.... gone, ... urethane front bumper.... just paint damage..... the bumper reflected two 2x4 beams without any damage besides paint scratches. if this isnt proof of its strength than i dont know what is. im convinced my urethane front is stronger than any of my stock parts.

so if a 2x4 cant bust it... i dont think pebbles are something to worry about
