I am going to be getting a paint job soon on the fire and i was wondering, whats the best thing to do for prepping and whatnot, im already going to sand the whole car down, will it be bad to have my car sanded down for more than a month? because i have to save up, the income isnt too great, also, im going to have a body kit on soon, so should i wait to put the body kit on before i get it painted, or just drive with the kit on and not having it painted?

And how far are you planning on sanding it down? (To the metal or just scotch brite).

Im not sanding it down to the metal, just sanding the clearcoat and a little of the paint off, ive already started sanding where my side mouldings used to be because the tape was extremely wet on top then dry on the bottom so i had to sand it off to get it off, should i just hold off the on the rest of the car?
1. i wouldn't sand it until it is ready for paint... like RIGHT after sanding, or darn close to it (i.e. same day)
2. Where are you getting it painted at? Many shops will not touch work done by someone else... it's a liability issue on their part. Say you sand the car, and you missed a spot, paint doesn't stick, that can come back on them. So check with your shop or whatever first... could save hassle later on.
Plus, what if you don't use the proper grits for sanding for what they're doing? Some shops prep cars differently... depending on what's going on, and how they do things, you could make more work for them in the long run, not saving them much time or saving you much money.
If you're heck bent on sanding and prepping, talk to the place that's doing the painting.
hmm... i never thought about it that way, but why would it matter what grit i use as long is it is sanded down right? and im tryin to save money by prepping the car myself and all the shop has to do is paint it, thanks for the advice, im just tryin to not to mess up my car

not trying to bust your balls but it doesnt really sound like you know what your doing. if you do it wrong, its gonna cost more for the shop to fix what you did.
its just like mechanics, some mechanics wont let you bring parts to them and have them change them out for liablity reasons. same thing like nikki said about body shops.
its cool, i dont really know what im doing, im only sixteen lol, yea i kno what u guys mean, i went and talked to the shop today, got it all planned out, white with white pearlescents, and they are going to do the prep work, i only started sanding down my side moulding area because the tape was pretty much imbedded in the paint, thanks for the help and whatnot
