Does anybody still have the instructions to this anywhere. This is the mod for the signals to work through the reverse lights. I did a search and only found instructions to the toyota lights, and some other ones that wire into the 3rd brake light. I did the mod like 3 or 4 years ago, and now one of the wires has come undone. I can't figure out where it went in at. The way I did it was run wires back from under the dash to the rear of the car (drivers side) then i had one wire come from the drivers side to the pass side, then one wire coming from the pass side to the drivers side and that is the wire that is unhooked. Anywho the problem it caused was of course no fuction of my rirght blinker. If anyone did the mod in this fashion (which i'm sure by now there is a much easier way of doing it) could ya let me know where that wire is hooked to. Its bean so long and a few wires are snipped and taped off, so I have no clue of how i did it. I do remember instructions from a long time agot aht were prety straight forward wiht a makeshift diaram and the whole 9.
You made it overly complicated with the extra wires.
It's the same concept as the toyota wiring, except the signal wire would be routed to the reverse light socket instead of the toyo turn signal.
The wire that comes from the third brake light goes to the existing l/r brakes
I did the same thing as above, but ended up switching the reverse lights to brake/park (people in my area have a complex when it comes to brake lights... they think it means go faster <shrug>
Well 3 or 4 years ago, that was the only way anyone knew how to do it. I'll pry leave it for now as it's all wired up, but I just need to find out where that wire comeing from the pass side goes to.
Well a blew a fuse when i was trying to figure out the problem. I changed it, then it all worked fine again. Then last night I got done doing something else to my car (unrelated) and when i started it up, i figured I try it again, and of course it wasn't working. The drivers side is still fine though.
That's what i'm thinking. I'm not 100% sure how i have it wired now, but I think i have a wire running up to either the fuse block or front blinker. So getin grid of that long wire would be great. I am kind of having problems understanding Step 5. Like the black to black, brown to brown? If yoru putting the colors to the same color, wouldn't you be hooking i back up the same way it was? If anyone could explain how i would do this mod, but remixed for the bliker mod instead of toyo light mod that would be great. Just pretend i am a 12 year old learing for the first time. I'm not that much of a wire man, so the more instruction the better.
so wiat im confused, what exactly does this mod do??
The instructions for the Toyo lights are going to be a bit different than what you are doing. As I said earlier, the concept is the same. Here's a summary for your application. (this will be the same for the driver and passenger sides)
Hit the 4-ways and using the test light/multimeter, find the one that is powering on and off. That's the one that you are going to cut (leave some slack at the socket, you'll need it later) and route to the reverse light socket.
Run a wire from the third brake light power wire to the socket side of the wire you just cut. A T-splice (aka quick splice) will work at the power wire for the third brake. That will give you the brake lights back.
The wire that you routed to the reverse light will become your turn signal.
Again, you will need to find the power wire for that socket. Once found, snippy and splice the wire you routed (leave some slack at the socket if you want it reversible)
Pop the column cover and track down the white wire as mentioned in the Toyo instructions, snip that and that will stop your turn signals from acting as extra brake lights.
Test and enjoy.

Converts the reverse lights to independant turn signals while still retaining brake light functionality.
I ended up figuring it out last night. I followed the wires back to the front of the car, and found that it was getting week with in the insulation, so i cut it and rewired it with a new wire.
Kardain, thanks for the hook up on the instructions. I think i'll consider doing this so all of wires are within the trunk rather than going up through the engine bay. Thanks again.
