So I had a pleasant surprise - some clown decided to tag my convertible top on my car with red sharpie. It's a white/beige soft-top, and I'm having a heck of a time trying to get it off. I can get what's on the surface easily enough, but I can't get into the texture of the vinyl. The vinyl has a sort of grid pattern on it (think thousands and thousands of tiny little squares). I can't get deep enough to get at what's caught in the grooves.
Anybody know a vinyl-safe solvent and method I can use to get this crap off my car?
They sell a vinyl top cleaner at like Advance Auto or PepBoys. I'd try that and maybe a toothbrush to get down into the threads.
God that sucks! Good luck!
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
try the graffiti removal paint. but dont use it if it says not to of course. that sucks though. me being a graffiti writer i know alot of poeple dont care about others property and that sucks. you should find them and kick some ass
My suggestion is take your car back to where it happened, invest in a remington 700 "hunting rifle" w/ a nice leupold scope, and wait about 600 yards out with a phosphorous tipped bullet for any jackass that wants to try it again.

The saddest part is that it happened on my street (street parking at my apartment). Still no use with various products; magic clean eraser, rubbing alcohol, scotchbrite scrub pads, firm bristled scrub brushes, toothbrushes, tide spot stain remover, and even tried nail polish remover on a small part (all it did was stain the vinyl
).
Alright, I found a bit of information for you. I don't know if it will be of much/any help to you, but it does come straight from the manufacturer of Sharpie's FAQ section so I thought I'd throw it out there. (There is a link to a specific stain removal product at the end, so that might help ya.)

How do I remove a permanent marker stain?
The successful stain removal of ink stains differs from case to case because of the many types of fabrics, colors, inks and time elapsed before stain removal. We cannot guarantee stain removal since many variables can be involved. Testing first is always recommended as well as following both the stain remover and clothing manufacturer's instructions. Following these steps should result in partial or complete removal.
General Rules:
1) Treat stains as soon as possible. Fresh stains can be removed more easily than old ones.
2) Check manufacturer's labels as to fabric content and any special instructions
3) Always test stain removal solution first on a hidden part of the article or on swatch of fabric taken from seam allowance to insure no color loss or damage will occur.
4) Where possible, lay stained article face down on paper towels or clean white cloth and apply stain removal solution to underside of stain so that stain can be removed from the surface instead of pushing it through the fabric. Replace towels or cloth as they absorb stain to prevent stain transfer.
5) If enlisting the aid of a professional laundry or dry cleaner, be sure to indicate what the stain is and the type of fabric.
6) Do not iron stained garments or put in dryer as this may set stain.

Good luck, bro.
depending on your deductible with ins, i would let them replace it.
If you have a Swish Maintenance store out there try a product called vandel mark remover. Best way to use it is to spray it into a bowl and then dip a toothbrush in it and scrub the area. Also tape off around the vandalised portion and pretest on an out of site area. This product removes almost anything.

hair spray
Removed Sharpie marker from t-shirts. Soak, dab, repeat. Wash after that. Not sure if brand matters. I have used Aqua Net, and that worked fine. Maybe this will work on your vert top.
Have you tried "Goog Off!"? They have it in any Home Depot
i have this stuff at work that is used to remove graffiti of all kinda and it comes in a spray can. looks like spray paint. well it works really well and they sell it at local stores. have seen it at wallmart a few times to. might wanna give that a try
