ok well i was given my dads 99 cavy, 2dr 170,000 kms, awsome condition, anywho. Atm i have many things to pay for, so im looking at about... $150-200 per paycheck that i can spend on my new toy
what are a few things i can do to make it a little more unique with that kinds budget? Also, on a side note, i was looking at a cavy on cardomain (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/358824/(sexy car btw)) and i really like that body kit, the Street Fighter Combat body kit. Well.. im a little confused as to wat i should look for when buying a body kit, for one i found one for a 99 cavy on ebay for like $144, but for that little $$ what kinda quality should i expect :S. Or is that a common price for such a body kit? Again im VERY new to cars/modding, so if these questions sound stupid please dont flame me lol.
save up the extra money to get a good high quality kit. Sure you CAN find awesome kits on ebay... but taking the chance.... well if you want to take the chance that is...
Basically I'd say the rule of thumb for "new modders" is this...
You get what you pay for. Don't EVER expect to pay dirt cheap prices and get high quality, unless you have some serious hookups. Take your time, save up the extra money, and get parts/work done higher quality. Car parts is one thing that should never be cheaped out on

x3
dont go cheap if you're gunna invest in your car...otherwise you'll end up paying more than what ud expect to pay in the long run...i bought cheap coilovers and struts off ebay...and ive had to pay almost over 1000 dollars in repairs to stock parts that have gone bad because of them on...and im still not done fixing it yet....i for one think its better to lower your car before a kit but just lower it the right way...and also buy a kit off of a trusted website cus ebay kits usually have fitment issues whereas some place like www.gravanatuning.com or www.andysautosport.com fit almost perfect with very little extra work involved...just shop around and read the faqs they have stickied in the various threads here...theyll help you out a lot...and finally...welcome to the org and the sport compact modding world
the cardomain
ty for your replys, but thats not really wat i ment by cheap mods. I mean little things, stuff i can do myself. LIke on my old car (97 stratus) you could do stuff like clear the corners by simply taking the housing off, and use a flathead to pop the yellow plastic reflector out and break it into peices with cutters ( i dont wanna do this mod as i really really like those black halo lights that were on ebay) but you get the idea, i need ideas of some simple mods. Such as perhaps painting the interior.. I really like that glossy look, but how much would it cost do get that done?
Ok, that makes sense.
Removing the side moldings is a low cost aesthetic mod.
As far as painting the interior goes, people are going to give you 5 million different answers as to what is the best way to go about it, or how much it would cost.
I'd be willing to bet money that if you posted in interior about it, TONS are going to tell you it's easy as heck, and doesn't hardly cost anything.
If you want a nice glossy look, I'd personally recommend using actual auto paint (not rattle can stuff) to paint it. Auto paint is more durable, and will shine much better.
Getting rid of the texture, could be done in 2 ways. Fiberglass, or sanding off the texture. I did up the interior of my old sunfire, sanded off all the texture and used actual auto paint, and it looked awesome. The sanding part su(ked a big one, but it came out looking like glass.

silly question, but what do you mean about auto paint? are you talking about using like the compressor and stuff? Im not a genious with all this stuff so if u could be a little more specific that'd help alot

Auto paint as in the paint you use to paint a car...
k thought so, are any brands better than others? I hear good things bout Duplecolor (sorry if the spelling is off
)
She's referring to brands such as House of Kolor, DuPont, PPG (at least, I think it's PPG), etc.
Duplicolor and other rattlecan paints will work, however don't have the luster and shine that automotive grade exterior paint has. Now, I'll prolly get disowned for this, but Krylon Fusion (as it works well with plastics) with a good high gloss clear should turn out fairly well.
For the dash pad, you have 2 options. Vinyl dye or fiberglass/paint. If you try to paint directly onto the pad, it will crack/peel.
interior painting is a cheap mod if u don't have the cash to do the fiberglassing or the knowladge to do it n do it right i might suggest just buying sum duplicolor interior paint from your local walmart or auto parts store (ie. walmarts cheaper) n just paint a few objects in your interior liek vents n small plastic pieces just be careful when taking apart the dash prep the parts right n it should come out very nice just be shure to pick a color that will blend nicely with the color of the cavy n later on when u have built up more knowladge then u can go through n fiberglass ur whole interior n make it looks very nice just my 2 cents
