Would a sunfire trunk lid bolt right onto a 97 cav? is the lock and all that in the same location on the car? not sure cause aint really seen a whole lotta sunfires real close up? I am looking at the sunfires with the licence plate on the bumper not on the trunk lid.

I believe so, BUT your gonna have to have Sunfire tails.

i've swapped the cavy trunk lid onto my 4 door sunfire and only ran into a few problems, and yes, you'll need sunfire taillights. I still have the sunfire tails on my car with the cavy inners and it looks ray-tarded.

but easy install, couple a bolts and a couple of cuts and splices.

mind you that all cavalier trunks are the same, while only the sunfire sedan will bolt up, the coupe is totally different.
