yes yes yes, i've searched. yes i know all z24 side skirts are interchangable. yes i know i have to drill holes in the rocker panel...i have a new question i haven't seen before.
i'm currently putting 96 z24 side skirts on to my 2002 z24 sedan (original sedan skirt got damaged). the holes for the clips are in the right spot for the 96Z. i know i need to drill the holes, but i'd really like to not screw up and put a bunch of unnecessary holes in my car. so here's my question that i haven't seen before...
has anybody cut the clip brackets off of the side skirt and just 3M taped them on?
i've been really tacky lately. i've had one sedan skirt and one 96Z skirt on my car for a while. on the first skirt i installed, i didn't want to drill holes. i got the thing mounted and then ran 3m tape down the length of the car. after about a day the tape peeled because it couldn't get a good lock with the clips. i'm thinking that if i cut the clips out, it'd allow for more surface for the tape to get on...thus, maybe holding the skirt on....
any input is greatly appreciated. i'm rolling one 96Z skirt and one skirtless side on my car until i can get a response...
GO PATS!!!
i recent put some of the Sunfire smooth style skirts on my 96 sedan and cut the clips off for the same reason, i have the rest of the tabs screwed in to the bottom of the car where they were meant to be. and the skirt just kinda sits on the rocker where its suppost to be. my plan is to put 3m tape on there to hold them better. but i dont think youll have ANY problems doing so. good luck
Put like 3-4 strips of the tape side by side. It should hold it very well.
i would use something more like an epoxy myself... not sure how well just some tape would hold. it might work, but i'd personally go with something a little stronger.
I have done it and don't suggest it. I used 3m door molding tape and it works great for a week or so but......when it gets really hot out it sags(almost looks like it's melting). I'm trying to find the correct part number for the clips and be done with it. I was thinking of making a template of the skirts then transfer it to the car somehow (lol)
i decided not to use just tape. i went ahead and drilled holes. marking where they go isn't hard, but drilling at the right height on the rocker is a pain in the butt. i missed on the two rear holes so it doesn't sit right. all the other one's are DECENT. it sits where it should sit, but the middle sags. i'm going to try 3m tape to fix the sag and redrill the last two holes up higher so it'll sit better.
should i get some touch up paint to paint on the inside of the holes? don't want any rust.
GO PATS!!!
