Carbon Fiber and EXTREME hot climate
Wednesday, July 19, 2006 12:40 PM
Hello All,

Im thinking of going with CF exterior appeareance route... but I live in arizona and u know how hot it can get in this area.. 115 degrees in July and August and it can go on to 105 most of the time in the summer. Would the UV rays destory the coating on the CF parts? I was thinking maybe going with CF hood and part of the spoiler.. not sure. So tell me if its worth it or not? Thanks Guys...

AND, yes i checked the search... No results.

i do know, that the better quality parts will hold up better. i dont know tho if it will be any worse there vs here in north carolina. i got a vis hood thats alittle over a year old, and other than the nice busted corner i managed to get... it looks like the day i got it. its driven to work every day, and when i am at school it sits in the school lot, in shade when i can find it, but not usually... VIS for the win!

i think you will be ok if you get a high quality one like vis... and hell if it fades then paint it. It will still keep the function atleast.

most cf pieces come w/ a uv ray coating on it to protect it from fading

an extra coat of clear coat will actually help prevent it from developing waves down the road too. little extra protection...expecially in temps like those

my rk hood went to crap fast , took me 6 hours or more to get it to shine again

but keep the hood waxed and in the shade or in a garage during the day

Blah... all that fuss just to keep a CF hood looking good? I think I might just go with fiberglass instead. We'll see. I could change my mind.

Clear coat it and you won't have a problem.
