03 projectors a success
Wednesday, July 26, 2006 1:35 PM
finally ripped apart my headlights and removed the round turnsignals and installed a set of projectors in there place, then re wired everything so that my projectors run off my lows, my turnsignals are in my foglites beneath the headlights...my proj. are twice as bright and purplely/blue as my highs from eurolite. just wondering if any one else has successfully done this .

Yup, highs are in the turn signal location, lows are in the stock bulb location.

03+ headlights have 2 turn signals. One doubles as a parking light.. thats the one that they are getting rid of.

Oh right forgot about that, thanks Wootburgers. I thought the small light on the side was the parking light and the large orange light was the signal light.

the outter projector is just a lens for the parking light/turn signal that bulb functions as it, as well as the smaller 194 bulb.

I only have 1 HID projector, and the other is just a lens for looks over the turn signal and what not

So your high and low beams are still in the usual spot and are projected by the same projector?

In regards to an 03+ cavalier which uses a 9007 headlamp, when you convert your main headlamps to HID, you lose your high beams..

The exception is if you have a bi-xenon projector which uses a shield to increase and decrease light output, which mimics a high and low beam... I think there are some bulbs on the market that can actually change their position (like a switch that flips up or down) to mimic a low and high beam brightness too but I have no idea what those are all about, and i'm not sure if they can even be used in a projector.

You shouldn't need high beams when you convert to HID though. But if you are worried about it I'd get either a bi-xenon projector or replace the turn signal/parking light with a halogen bulb or an HID bulb depending on what you decide to do with the main light.

If you want projectors, but want to keep a halogen setup, I think you will still need to convert your bulbs to something other than 9007, because l dont think there is a projector on the market for a 9007 bulb... I'm pretty sure that you will lose your high beams no matter what you decide to do unless you get a bi-xenon projector, wire your turn signal/parking lamp to be a headlight, or use the front of the projectors as a cover, but keep your setup stock (which really isn't a projector headlight, its just a cover over your stock light that looks like a projector, but makes your light output suffer. I dont recommend this unless you are just using it over your parking light.. thats what I did.)

these all seem to be '03+ models. are there any HID replacements for the '02 models? or am i stuck w/ stock halogens?

You wont get replacements, I will even go out on a limb and say that 100% of aftermarket premade projectors (excluding the israel, altho I have not seen them) are junk.

You can put a bixenon projector/hid setup in, they are alot bigger than normal projectors and take alot of room in headlights.

you can retrofit projectors into older models, but the 03s are a bit bigger and easier to work with. Alot of times it depends what projectors you use as they all vary in size. Personally I would be willing to build pre 03 projectors as well, just alot harder since I dont have a car to test fit them on before sending them out so you just have to plug them in and they are aimed properly.
