What does the styrofoam behind the bumpers actually do? I've heard it reduces road noise, and it's good for collisions.
Of course, I've heard it does nothing in the event of collisions.
Anybody have any experience with this styrofoam and what it really does?
Here's a picture so you know what I'm talking about.
if your talking about the crush guard its to help take the blow of an impact. if there was no crush gaurd a simple bump could send the air bags off where as if you had the crush guards it would absorb it
it will also help prevent bumper sag and provides some support for some aftermarket bumpers
Its also there incase of minor collisions so the guard can absord and push in a tad so the bumper doesn't instantly crack and shatter all over the place.
