another type of cavalier/sunfire swap
Monday, August 07, 2006 5:06 PM
well when me and my grandpa were tearing apart the car, putting on the new QP...he told me that cavaliers used to come down the line with sunfire quarter glass and pillar things(rear window part). he said it looked pretty cool. well if someone swaped the sunfire interior....or atlease doors back, then put sunfire glass and pillar in...wouldnt that work? why hasnt anyone done it?

I'm doing Cavy rear glass on my Cavfire that was a Sunfire before I did anything to it. It has been done.

Flip did it, on his cav he swapped the the sunfire rear side glass, not sure how he did it, had to involve cutting and welding

There's a bunch of spot welds holding on the quarter panel. Then you'd have to change the roof to get the shape of the glass right.

1. This is more exterior than interior (when you get the exterior solved, make an interior post). This post has focused on the quarter glass and C pillars, hence moving it to exterior.

2. You made a post yesterday that was in general that obviously was an exterior question (white boy lip). Forums work by putting things where they belong. Since this was your second offense, a warning was issued, its not a power trip.

BTW, this is your warning:

Not everything belongs in the general forum, please try to post in the appropriate forum.

If I was on a power trip when I issued it, I would not have been so polite.

yeh flip told me that u have to weld some onto the existing pillar for it to work right... its not as easy as the front end swap, interior swap...

u dont have to remove the whole 1/4 panel.. there is just a little molding peice that covers it(flip told me how to remove it but i forget now..sure if u search ull find out how) i know phewes had planned on doing it or atleast was thinking of it..

as to kardain comment.. you dont have to change teh roof.. the only difference in that area is the spot for the glass to sit it and how the molding peice sits in above it.. which is why i like them cuz it kinda rounds off the back window instead of just a triangle like on cavs... so u wouldnt have to cut parts of the roof out and change it..

^^well i dont know for sure but it wasnt mentioned at all when flip was tellin me.. cuz sunfire and cavalier roofs are just alike so i doubt their is any difference there.. if u look at the 2 u can see the molding piece is just like a cavy's after the curve on the inside back over the window.. yes the 1/4 panel is a different shape then a cavalier but that doesnt effect it...

I had emailed "flip" quite a while back and he had told nme the same thing.... that the only real mod needed was to weld a peice of the support metal in btween the outer skin and the interior panel. I am planing on doing it to my cavfire because I agree that the rounded window looks soo much better!! I just don't know how the panel comes off. Is it just glued? or is it rivited, bolted and glued?

Manta Z: email me if you think that you remember ow it comes off! or if anyone has "flips" email address so that I can get a hold of him plaese pass it on! I have a donaor car located but I need some hints on how to take the off!!!

Yeah, I was looking at mine today, and the top corner right behind the B pillar is a bit on the loose-ish side, so all that would need to be changed is the C Pillar exterior panel and interior as well.
