I need as much info about Pearls as possible. I'm going with a Daytona blue with a pearl accent... haven't decided what color of pearl to use just yet.
Since I'm going with Daytona Blue, I'll be using Dupont Chroma Base, Clear, etc. Since our local Napa doesn't sell Pearl concentrates to match (does Dupont even make pearl concentrates?), I'm going with a HOK pearl.
An issue (not the only one) I'm experiencing so far is the pearl concentrates on hokpaint.com come in Dry Pearl, Dry Pearl Sparkle, and a paste form:
-Which would be easiest to mix with the clear and spray?
-I'm assuming pearl is to be mixed and sprayed on the first coat of clear applied or an intercoar clear?
-What is the difference in Pearl Concentrate and Kosmic Pearls on hokpaint.com?
-They come in 2oz jars~ would that be enough to spray an entire vehicle? Would 2 2oz be more appropriate?
-And step by step on how to spray pearl (precisely) would be excellent... we've painted SEVERAL things before but haven't sprayed pearl yet~ what directions to spray, in what order, etc. I'm assuming alternating up & down/ side to side?
*&~ (an opinions only question) What color would look best over top Daytona Blue?*
Thanks~~
well depends on what your talking about..dupont does do pearls..what i think your talking about and i may be wrong is a tricoat paint job...ive seen it done a few ways..one with pearl mixed in the first coat of clear, or two with the pearl mixed as a paint and its just pearl and dupont filler..basically clear paint..i know someone will have more info but yah your on the rigt track..phil
as far as i know du pont does powder pearl but don`t quote me on that iam not really inot du pont
i know PPG pearl is in powder form
you never ever mix pearl in with clear coat, what you use is a mid coat color blender
what i can tell ya is ya might be better off with maybe like 6 to 8 oz of pearl always good to have left over
as far as spraying pearl well again online it`s very hard to give ya my way of painting, but no i go side to side, that`s it i open my fan pattern just a tad more then usual the material stays the same not to fast not to slow just a nice even speed
if you never paitned pearl before do a test panel first to get teh hang of it, but painting is not something you can learn from us online it takes yr`s and yrs of experience to paint
can i haz bondo
