i've lots of body work and i've always sanded down to bare metal before applying bondo. over the yrs, my 2000 cavalier had ever exterior panel stripped down metal to eventually. now i have a new cavy, older yr with about a dozen dents. most r minor. to my question, do i have to sand down to bare metal or just sand the paint down a bit. i don't want to make the mistake goiong down to bare metal if i don't have 2. it's aldo more work requiring primer etcher, possibly primer filler, primer sealer then paint.
well first thing...its not bondo..its body filler...and i dont suggest using bondo brand body filler.
cuz its about the crappiets brand out....but hay,,,, do what u want
i would suggest PDR for the minor stuff thats were my car is headed in the near future.
yeah, if u can just do paintless dent repair..
For body filler.. ive always taken it down to bare metal.. for the reason itll have a good bond.. and u dont want to have paint under body filler esp if there is moisture in the paint or under the paint.. thatll cause it to rust under ur body filler and dont think it wont crack or chip out when that happens.
Btw i've always used Evercoat products
But most will use Bondo brand because its what u can get at AAP, Auto Zone, Walmart, etc.. I have to get the evercoat at the local Car-quest here..
