Im looking to replace my hood with carbon fiber due to collision damage and im curious how carbon fiber will hold up durning the winter.. My car is garaged when not in use. I would keep the stock hood on however it looks horrible because i hit a deer recently =(.. Any info would be appreciated.

in my whole hearted honest opinion...if you do not plan on waxing the CRAP out of it once a week and trying to keep it out of the sun...dont buy one for a daily driver-ESPECIALLY one driven in the winter.
im sure it would hold up just fine...but the glossy look would be gone in a year or less and would really look horible. the sun quickly dulls the finish, and im sure snow and salt would do alot of wear to it as well.

^^^ That in part is true. I had that problem with mine. I wetsanded it down with 400 till all the dullness was gone and clearcoated it. Looks great now and has for 3 yrs, daily driver, never been in a garage and driven all winter long.

mine survived all last winter and just needs a little buff and it will be ok, and its a daily driven car! just make sure you wash the salt and other winter crap off it every couple days, dont let it set on there.

if you buy one, just take it to a paint shop and have them put a couple coats of clear on it.

That's probably what I would do. Before you install it get it coated with a couple coats of clear. Then just be sure you wax it well before you put it on. Keep it clean and I think you'll be OK.
Sold 6/30/06.
Outstanding, thanks for the help guys... Looks like ill be contacting the local body shop for a few coats of clear.. gotta protect the investment anyway =)

I would honestly just find another sunfire hood and put that on. Take the carbon one off for winter...they are expensive and it would suck to have something go wrong with it.
I have had my cf hood on my sunfire for about 6 months now; looks greatm, just a few chipps in her; i am taking mine off for the winter in a few short weeks, i think my cf hood came with a clear coat alreday; i waxed it about once a month.

bingo.
spend a couple more $$$ and get a spare stock hood. it's a lot of money to put into a hood, why chance it.
