Unlocking car from outside....
Tuesday, November 07, 2006 10:26 AM
Hey guys, sorry if this has been posted already (I couldn't find it) but I was wondering if there is a way to pop open the door of an 03 Cavalier manual-lock 2dr with a jimmy or a hangar. I locked my keys in my car (With the spare key) and I won't have another set of keys for a day or two. My buddy is a big car buff and he'll be over soon, but he wanted me to ask you guys if theres anything we should know before we try to pop it open. Again, sorry for the novice question, but I'm in a pinch. Thanks everyone.

Ok, I understand and respect that you guys arn't throwing out info to unlock anyones Cavalier, I didn't know how sensitive that info was considered on this site. Would it be possible to PM me? I have the car, registration and my ID sitting on my desk right now I assure you I am not stealing any vehicle. If someone could PM me with some basic guidlines I wold really appreciate it. My dad is on a business trip with his Mustang and he won't be back for a day or two. I called a Locksmith and 3 different people wanted roughly 60 bucks to do it. Let me know. Thanks!

k i hate it when ppl post things that are useless. w/o saying exactly how, pretty much u have to slide somethign down the window with a hook kinda on the end (sry if its conufsing) and have it grab the rod that goes to the door lock. once it is on the rod just pull up and it will unlock.

call the cops. out here if the cars in your name they'll open the car for free with no issues at all. if they dont do it they can tell u who to call.

PhatPharm, don't take this personally, but chill out. Nothing I posted was 'useless', I came here figuring someone who knows more about jbody's than I do would be able to help me out. I posted this topic because I didn't know how to do something and I was looking for an answer. No @!#$ you stick a slim jim down there and pull up, I don't need your lip, just a tip or two on how to do it. If you can help me, thank you. If not, simply press the 'Back' button on your browser, you're so smart I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding it. If you really get upset over an internet message board, you've got some issues. Again, don't take it personally, but I'm not going to let a kid on the internet named "PhatPharmG" talk me down.

Anyways, moving on, I called the police and they opened it with no issues, thanks everyone for the help and I'm sorry if anyone got offended by my simple question, I'm sure you can understand my situation.

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.

There's a couple "taboo" topics on car forums in general... slim-jimming a car is one of 'em.

Basically, its because if some other person that was not needing help got a wild hair up their rear decided to go around stealing stuff out of cars w/ no noticeable signs of forced entry... it would be a bad thing

I'm pretty sure he was talking about all the "useless" replies from people who were evading your question because it was taboo. Nice rant though, even if it was misplaced. I'd hate to see how long it would be if you were still trying to get into your car. Maybe now you can chill.

If your friend has a lock picking kit with one of those inflatable things stick that in the top rear corner of the front door and inflate it. This will open the door enough to get a rod inside to easily pull back the lock.

simple what u do is pull the door pillar out a lil bit and then take a screw driver and pop ur window out of the weather striping and pull the window that should be enough room to put ur arm in and unlock it . thats how my subs got stolen

Well, I never had to do it on my 96, but I can tell you this, on an 82 J-2000 se it's not all that simple as you guys make it sound. I locked my keys in at work a few years back, and two different cops tried to slim jim it. All they did was disconnect the linkage on my driver door. Finally when I got a locksmith to come out he he got it open, but he said that it couldn't be slim jimed, he had to use a thin piece of metal that went into the lock. he rocked the lock back and forth until it popped. I think he called it (now don't laugh too hard if I'm wrong) a jiggler. Anyway, I always figured it wass some kind of anti theft thing that gm did, and I had assumed that if a car that old had it, then the newer ones would too.

RobKroeger....my reply about the useless stuff was to the people saying @!#$ like serach ort whatever giving u useless replies. Questions aren't ussually useles IMO. but whatevr i posted the help i could give. So nxt time try and read what the perosn is tryin to say to u instead of takin stuff personally and getin mad when it wasnt even directed at u. And as for me being a kid....whatever ur the one who asked a question and needed the knowledge from a kid.

Cheers,
