Head lights blink when I lock my car.... NEEDS TO STOP!
Tuesday, November 21, 2006 12:14 PM
I have an 00 z24 with the factory installed theft deterant / keyless entry system. Any way to get the headlights to quit blinking when I lock / unlock my car? Short of actually buying a brand new system that is.. Looking to install a set of 8000k HIDs and the company I am buying from said the blinking can shorten the life of the bulbs..

Any ideas?

I already did the DRL trick posted on here. Worked like a charm. (Thanx)

I'm no mechanic, but I have a pile of car manuals around me at work -- and a few spare moments:

As per your owner's manual:
"Your dealer can change the settings to disable the headlamp flash feature and horn chirp" -- Page 2-9.

As per the service manual:
Mentions that the lock and unlock buttons will "Flash the Daytime running lights (if selected ON in personalization)" -- section 8-393. It doesn't seem to elaborate on what is required for this personalization. Sounds like your dealership needs to mess with your ECM or key FOB.

just like an aftermarket alarm, there should be a procedure to access a menu that allows you to change the settings

Okay.. going to the dealer tomorrow to see what they can do... now I wanna know how I can get my turn signals (corner lights) to stay on the higher setting so they stand out like some other GM cars.. any ideas there?

Okay.. took my car in to the dealership this morning. They hooked up the Tech-2 but when they went to personalize the settings the Tech-2 wasn't communicating properly. They told me that by doing the DRL bypas thru the BCM I prolly fried part of the BCM itself and that's why it won't communicate. Any one have this happen to them? Is it even possible? Any other ideas on why the Tech-2 wouldn't communicate?

The dealer doesn't use the personalization feature often enough, to know how to use it properly?

The DRL kill won't affect the BCM like that. They're full of @!#$.

I had the same issue yesterday when trying to turn my horn honk on unlock off....... and I dont even have the DRL bypass mod done.......

...... AND I was the one holding the Tec-II

I think it has to do with having the Factory Radio removed (since its part of the Key Fob personalization)

But the factory radio is in there.. it's been worked on cause I have a sound system in there.. but it's still the factory deck...

Nothing to do with the radio... it's all in the BCM programming. You could have NO radio at all (there was a radio delete option), and it should still work.

It comes down to, how often you use the Tech 2 to do that personalization feature.... it's not a commonly used thing, so most people aren't familiar with how to do it. And most are too f'n lazy to look it up!

I remember doing it back when I bought my car, and still worked at the dealer....... when I went to do it this time how ever, it just said 'communicating' or something, and never advanced past that. I was under BCM Controls, and tried both Key Fob options (one listed under BCM and one under Radio) just wouldnt communicate with the BCM for some reason........ guess I'll have to bust out my service manual and do some reading

I know its pretty easy to do - I've done it while holding the Tech -2 in my driveway. I turned on the "2 horn beeps when unlocked by key fob" feature and now I'm getting sick of it. I'll try to get my hands on a Tech-2 tomorrow and let you guys know what the steps are to disable this, as I am also going HID.

So, does this cost money to do at the dealer?

Note to Scriz.. yes it did cost me money to ATTEMPT to get this done at the dealer.. cause like I said for some reason their Tech-2 wouldn't communicate with my BCM.

TO EVERYONE ELSE: Apparently I had nothing to worry about from the get go here. I got my HID lights and installed them today. Not only do they look INCREDIBLE (I'll have pics to post soon) but, when I lock / unlock my car they don't blink. So... one of two things is happening.. either A: The light that was flashing was the high beam of my 9007 bulb so therefore it's not even hooked up anymore.. or B: the quick flash isn't enough to get the ballast box to start the bulbs. Either way.. they don't blink anymore now that I have my HID's.

Thanx to everyone for all the suggestions on how to fix this problem. Keep it up cause I am sure I will have other questions for future projects I have in store for the Dragon Z.
