why are you worried about the water its not going to hurt anything
^^^ I agree.... you drive in the rain right, vents or not your engine bay gets wet.
I'm sure if you think about it the 2.2 OHV the spark plug wires are in the front... So only if that is his engine would I be worried, but all other engines should be fine in my outlook.
just to let you know, atleast on the 2.4, i have the evo hood, and that cover has a clearance issue with my intake.
i have the evo hood on my 05 no clearance issue with my aem cai. and water gets into the engine bay no matter what! not just from the hood but from the front unlesss u have a kit that removes the stock grill like the type j kit or something then u will always get water into the engine bay while driving in the rain. imo there is no point 2 run the evo hood without the vent cover in cuz it doesnt let the heat vent out as well and the cover doesnt really seal 2 the hood it just screws 2 it.

o forgot 2 mention that the side vents r always open and on the 03-05 version of the evo hood the vents r right above the throttle body. here a pic of mine witht the cover off.

I have the invader hood on my sunfire with the 2200; lots of water gets down in my engine bay when it rains; well it runs down onto the rad cover, splashed on the header, thats about it; and i had my hood on in some pretty good rain storms for 6 months, never had any problems, i took it off for the winter for obvious reasons with snow and all.
But yeah everytime i wash my car water gets in there as well; at first it use to bother me, i would tape up the vent; but then i thought with the hot air coming out there and with a piece of plastic bag over the vent it could be bad'; so i stopped worring about it; no big deal man; let it be; just put some rust check on any metal that water is getting on under the hood.
On a side note; any one know if the mesh that covers the vent in the invader hood can be removed; looks like it can, its black; i would like to put silver mesh in there.

I know the feeling man...I like to keep my engine bay pretty clean, so I put my cover on when I know it's gonna rain. Less water gets in, hence less water spots to clean. Oh, and I have the weapon R Dragon intake, and it does have major clearance issues with the cover and the mesh grill. My intake rubbed all the way through the mesh. I'm gonna wait to replace it until after I get a new intake.

try the extractor hood from class glass. the underside of the hood has channels that route any water away from the important parts of the engine. lemme find a pic......
