gas filler relocation??
Wednesday, December 27, 2006 7:51 AM
ok, i read every post even related to the gas filler already, and have still yet to see a picture of the filler relocated to the trunk from underneath. ive seen plenty from the top, but im curious about how you route the hose, especially if you have a full trunk setup??another thing im curious about is if you have to extend your stock filler hose at all, or replace it for that matter. ive read every post and no one has mentioned it that i can find.

also, while reading those posts, someone brought up a few great points that im interested in finding out myself.

Quote:

I'm curious about a few things, 1. do you get fuel smell in the car everytime you fill up? 2. do you ever get fuel in the trunk? 3. do you have hardcore stereo layouts in your trunks with this mod done? i'm curious what the wattage of an amp playing full out and the heat mixed with fumes from the gas could do in a sealed enviroment such as a trunk.

anyone have any thoughts?? opinions?? or better yet.....any ideas of a different way to shave the gas lid and relocate it somewhere else(not the tail light)? maybe something no one has done yet, or ud like to see but wont try??

thanks in advance.

I like the idea of it in the trunk, then again I dont like the idea of me popping the trunk everytime I get gas... Im also wondering about the smell of gas in my trunk.. You know that that means, if it smells in the trunk itll eventually lead to your cabin.

I think the best Idea would be to put it behind the tail light.. You wont have to worry about smell as much.
After having all my locks, handles and antenna shaved I wish I would of did the same to the gas door but w/e.

^^^ya, im a lil worried about the smell of gas, or gas dripping in the trunk.

im entertaining the idea of a sparco gas door or something similar instead, but after seeing A. Jones' issues he had with his, im not sure i feel like trying to make it work. the widebody causes issues with that

Best I Could Do

vince did it on his car when he while he is doing his widebody. about 1/2 way down page 10 is the pics of it. if you keep reading im not sure if he fixed the way it was but thats the pic i was talking about. not sure how well that helps

^^^thanks!!! that helps quite a bit. almost makes me not wanna do it now, lol. i dont like how that piping looks in the wheel well. plus im still worried about the gas smell and spilling.

hmmm. may be back to the drawing board.

i just did mine, as for the location if you do it in the trunk and mount the nossle in the corner its still basically on the outside the because the trunk seal still sepearates the trunk from the opening so fumes shouldnt be an issue. spilling? well your just as likely to spill on the side of the car as u were before, just use a rag or papertowel when you refill, you do have to extend the tubing, basically we popped the stock piece off, cut it to fit, then use fuel hose tubing to go from point a to point b. as for the stereo thing, it actually took up less space then i thought it would. i'll try and take a bunch of pics for you tonight.

ive done it to mine as well, at the bend of the fuel neck cut the bend out then angle it strait up. cut hole (i had 2 ) and connect the pipes with fuel hose. now i did have to make a rececess for the gas cap(just kinda hamered the edge down a bit) i allso hAd to shave about 1/4 in off the bottom of the gas cap so it would screw on all the way. i think i have pics in my cardomain. if you need more pics i can get you them just ask. hope that helped

^^^damn man, that is one clean install!!! that looks really nice. im still undecided wether i should do this, or try and figure out a way to make the sparco door fit. this would screw up my trunk plans a little bit. hmmmm. tough one.

thanks alot for the pics! and you too tabasco. very much appreciated!!

Where are you going to put the Sparco door?

I don't think it will fit under the trunk lid in the corner where everyone puts the stock one.

I've been entertaining the idea of a C-pillar relocation (sorry Cavi and Fire sedan folks... won't really work too well), but like whitecavy, unless its bolt on, I'm not to keen on doing it myself.

I believe so... I'll probably tinker around w/ it over the next couple months (have to find a window trim piece from a yard first)
