I never seen this done before, so i did it! haha Its not finished needs filler and sanded but it looks good to me so far. All i did was take the stock sunfire rear bezel and turn the plate sideways. I've never seen it done with the bezel so i thought i'd try it. What do u all think?

I think he was refering to the fact that its a TRUCK plate, not the ride height of your car.

andy brooks did that a long time ago on his fire
so did bagdfire (i think)
been there done that, there has been a few that have done it but I think lost its appeal I had mine done in 2004

98 j-body sedan
that mod is 4 like lowriders, and well, if it was 1998 again! and a fire aint a lowrider, and its 2007.
seems like a waste of time 2 me. just my .02 cents.

holy fiberglass batman. i dont think u needed that much. prolly caused yourself alot of headaches, but not bad
its only 2 lays of glass on the outside part and 3 layers inside the box for the plate. I dunno why it looks like alot. I should have it finished by the end of the month, I dont get alot of time to work on my stuff between school and work.

thats a bull@!#$ thing to say, why dont you show some support for a fellow jbo member rather than call it a waste of time, he obviously put forth some effort on this project.
if you just put fiberglass over the stock bezel (which it looks like you did), you're going to have problems.
first of all, the fiberglass won't wanna stick to the plastic very well unless you drilled holes or did something to make the 'glass adhere better to the plastic. a few slams of the trunk lid might very well cause the plastic and 'glass to seperate or crack.
secondly, fitment. the edges will be somewhat wider, so putting the bezel back on and having it fit well will be tricky. you're going to have to grind down the edges so the bezel isn't any wider than it was before, but then you're not going to have anything along the edges to hold it in place (see first point).
it looks like you've put quite the effort in already, and i really hope it works out for you, but those are just a couple observations i see so far. i could be wrong, but it's something that should be addressed anyway.
i did that with my cavi...but it was metal...but if executed right it should look good
thanks Zack
cannon fodder- Well i first sanded the thing down with 36 grit and the glass is wraped around to the back of the bezel so it should be ok. and theres plenty of room on the bottum and sides of the bezel since they dont go against anything and the top part of it its not very thick, but if need be i'll sand it down till it fits.
02 redbadged- Isn't modding a car a waste of money and time anyways? Its still fun and we all like to do it, So we do it

What Cannon was getting at is that it has to adheire better then that. Thats why most fiberglass projects when people do their interior such as door panels, dash, etc. You can't just glass over, you have to drill a LOT of holes through items, so when you put the resin, filler, etc over, it is basically bonded directly into the item so it can't break off with ease. Even if you sanded the bezel, the glass is still just over and wrapped around a tad, and it may come loose and crack with a few good slams of the truck (like previously mentioned).
true never even thought of that... I'll just be carfull lol.
also you are going to want to stiffen your trunk springs or it will crash down with the extra weight, plus if you dont have reverse lights in your rear bumper I would suggest adding them, as well In most places not having a license plate light is illegal thats also something you will need to add
just ain't my kind of thing. comments can be negative 2 and don't expect everyone 2 like it either.
thats just life.

it looks like you have alot of sanding in your future. It's good to see people trying it for themselves.
BuMmRz - yea i have the 00-02 rear bumper so the reverse lights are in the bumper and i'm puttin in 4 white LEDs in the top part to light it up at night.
02 redbadged- I know, Zack took it harder then i did for some reason.
STREAKER1369 - Theres really not alot of sanding to do, just inside the box. The outside si rather smooth becuase i sanded between the layers so it would be smooth for the last lay.
