My Daughter's car has wore hinges on the driver's side. We are just about at the point where it is going to Maaco for a patch in the rear filler and a complete integrated clear/poly job done on it. We took it to another body guy who said he could loosen the hinges and try to tweak the door up some so it doesn't hit the striker and wear everything out for $50. The other option is buy new hinges for it ($100), me prep them and give them to this same guy to install them for another $100. This car only has 62k miles on it and is mechanically and interior as good as they get IMO. I don't know how long she will keep it and since she is a teen driver more than likely she will wreck it. We at least need to fix the rust piece and paint it and have the door adjusted but do you think we should buck up and do new hinges instead? What in all is involved in taking the entire hinges off and putting new ones in. Maybe I can do this too if it isn't too bad.

well....id say try doing it yourself. even if its the install of new ones. i put my lambos on all by myslef. i just taped the door in place, pulled the fender off, and pulled the hinges. i wouldnt pay anyone any ammt of $ to do it for me, but thats me.
id at least try myself. if that dont work, then consider other options.....IMO
Does the fender have to come off to unbolt them? What else has to come out/apart to get them out?

well. my buddy took my pass. side door off with the hinges without taking the fender off. he did it pretty easily too, but technically, it was only 4 or 6 bolts i believe
but doing it this way means u have to take the whole door off completely.
taking the fender off to do it would allow you to not need a 2nd set of hands to do it, and will keep the door lined up perfect to just bolt the hinges on with no real adjusting needed
buy new hinges don`t "tweek" the old worn out ones ya got it will just get worse

If you decide to do it on your own. Mark the old hinges before you take them off. Get a marking on the door of where the old hinges are and on the cowl post of where the old hinges were. Then (I don't think the harness has a clip on it so) take the door panel off and remove all the wires from the door. Slide them through the harness hole out the door by were they come in so that they are no longer inthe door when you go to take the door off. Take out the latch bolt that connects to the body. Then with a friend take off the bolts that hold the door on to the latch. Take the door away and lay it on a table. Door panel side down LOL.
Then take off the hinges making sure that you remember wich one is the upper hinge and the lower hinge. Replace in reverse order making sure that you put your new hinges on the old marks. Should be good to go from there.
Good luck buddy.
^^^none of that is really necessary
Isn't needed? If it is pretty involved then $120 for the body guy to do them may be worth it. I think he has a door holder where he could just jack up to it and take them off... install the new ones. I will probably just POR-15 coat them in black and give them to him. That should hold up for 10 years or so. Do the hinges bolt on from the outside or inside? He thought the kick panel may need to be removed on the inside to get at least one of the bolts out.

Ratcheting tie down straps..... that's how I'm intending to install my lambos. Roll the windows down, cinch the straps and have at it using the method Joey posted.
for any one that is going to read his post
FYI the part of the vehicle is called the A-PILLAR not cowl post , the cowl it self is where the wiper blades sit
i thought i would clear that up
