need some help finding a few OEM parts
Thursday, January 25, 2007 7:45 AM
I'm doing a front end conversion on the skwirl to phase 1 style headlights, the corner lenses use what I'm calling 'cut nuts'

they're also used on the taillights.. they cut into the plastic rods and hold the tail lenses in place. Where can I find these nuts at? I've searched Ebay, JCWhitney, and GMpartsdirect to no avail

does anyone know where I can find these at? My next stop is going to be the dealership.

I'm also looking for the L brackets that go underneath the phase 1 headlights.. any idea where I can get those as well? I've looked thru the FAQ for front end conversions, but a part number would be nice since I don't really want to goto a yard to pull 2 tiny brackets and a bunch of nuts.

any help is appreciated. thanks.

can u define "phase 1" headlights?? what year are we talking about here?

i may have the brackets u need, and possibly the bolts as well.

phase 1 = 95-99
phase 2 = 00-02
phase 3 = 03-05

gotcha.......then my brackets wont work for you unfortunately.

as far as the bolts...do u need the smaller ones just like used on the outer tails? or the larger ones like used on the 03-05 inner tail?

ill see how many extras i have when i get home tonight......how many you need?

i would say the dealership would be the easiest way to go. they cant be that much, and probly come in a pack of 20 or something.

as for you doing the 95-99 headlight style... HOLY CRAP, i dont believe ive heard of ANYBODY doing this, its always just the opposite.. 95-99 to 00-02. wow, very cool man, ive always been more a fan of the older style (the newer style makes the cars look bug eyed IMO) and 03+ just YUCK.

idk i def like the phase 2 style better... but my import fighter front bumper is for older style only

the cars who convert the bumper to fit the newer headlights never come out looking right... and the projector housings I have will make the black headlight theme for my car a bit more pronounced.

it has been done before tho, just not 'publicized' i guess. I got smacked last friday by a ford explorer which is kind of pushing my exterior plans to the forefront.

But this front end conversion is complete with fenders, the headlight wiring subharness, corner lenses and the bumper lights (when I order them) which will be getting a matching black treatment.. no clear crap to stick out when the rest is black.

It should look very good, but unfortunatley the car won't be going to paint until spring time (the parts HAVE to go on since my front end is so f'd up tho)

it sucks, and I'm not looking forward to driving a silver car that's going to be half black.. but yea I may be hitting the dealer soon to see what the deal is with these nuts.

any help posted here is big time appreciated

there Speed Nuts. and any parts store should have them in the lil packages on the spinnin racks that have all the plastic clip and retainers. as for size i dont know but take one corner in and ull be able to find out, i know the nut on them is like 11mm unsure of center cut size tho.

brackets i think i had a set but gave em to a friend.

hope ur not planning on swapping subharness or headlight harness cuz they wont match up, 95-99 and 00+ are different sizes.. if u dont beleive me i can show you.

if u have any problems or more questions u can pm me aim me or just ask in headlight swap post. if i cant help u out i can figure out but ive been through the process and information alot so i should be able to answer any questions u have on the swap.

true i saw in the FAQ they're called speed nuts

next question:

anyone have the part number for the L brackets that sit under the headlights?

this is a picture of them

the yards around me are kind of stupid and aren't being very cooperative with letting me find this part. I wouldn't mind ordering them from my local dealer, but I need a part number

that sucks about the harness too but thanks for the heads up manta Z I guess i'll be following the sticky a little closer as far as wiring goes

thanks for the help guys! find me the part numbers for those L brackets! I'm trying to get gmpartsdirect to work on the comp in work but its not going too well.

Why cant you just go to the dealer and explain to them what you need... Idk bout ur local dealership but the guy i always deal with at mine doesnt hesitate to start typing in descriptions and finding the exact peice i need, and usually doesnt take much time at all.

and PJ, i just may have those peices you need anyways, pm me if your interested.

yeh ur dealer will be able to find it.. tell them a decription and where its at and what it does, theyll pull up a diagram of headlight setup and brackets and just find it on the screen. ive had to do it multiple times here..

I've got two different numbers for that plastic clip... one off the piece itself (I have a couple here), is #22560748. The other from a parts sheet (not sure how accurate it is tho) is #22677687.
